Interesting to see the opinions of the people who were outraged and screaming bloody murder when the Colston statue was removed

Of course the methods are different but the 2 scenarios aren't that dissimilar. It's a removal of a statue depicting two controversial figures.

A statue depicting a woman performing, to some people, a black supremacy gesture. With many citing the gesture as promoting and glorifying black on white racism. A person who is involved in the BLM organisation which has fuelled racial tensions globally and has been accused of attempting to start a race war and civil unrest.
A statue of a man who made his fame and money buying and selling black slaves. Which some people for years in Bristol have claimed is glorifying the slave trade and white on black racism. A man who had a hand in ruining the lives of over 80,000 people and a trade which not only stole people from their families but killed and tortured millions.
Both are contentious people.
There was outrage at both the protesters illegally removing the Colston statue and when statues were removed legally by local officials. People were also up in arms when various statues were stated as being planned for removal.

I don't blame the council for taking it down, it was placed there illegally and improperly and very easily could've caused serious harm. I would be very interested to see people's opinions though if Bristol Council returned and erected this statue with the correct safety standards though.

In my personal opinion neither statue should be still standing or should be returned to the plinth. Get them in a museum and chuck up a tree or a bench.

Well I suppose opinions differ. I’d say the similarities are there and it’s been interesting to see the praise the removal of this statue has had (and not because people were worried of the safety standards violations) compared to the anger people had at Colstons being taken down.

I think you've missed the point fella. I'm talking about people's opinions on the statue being pulled down and how they might differ to the previous one being pulled down. I've not made a case for randoms putting up new statues, in fact I've even highlighted the safety concerns and legality and said I support it being removed and have no issues with it :?

The point being though that the statue of Colston wasn't put up because he was a slave owner. The statue was put up because of he was seen as the 'the great benefactor of the city of Bristol,' and his involvement in the slave trade was overlooked.

There is a debate to be had around re evaluating his overall contribution to society and whether he should be celebrated, fair enough. It should be for the people of Bristol to decide, not the angry mob.

But what has Jen Reid done to be placed literally on a pedestal other than take part in mob rule behaviour and throwing up a black supremecist hand gesture?

The move to put this statue up was at best an artist ceasing an opportunity to grab the spotlight and at worst a statement of dominance from Black Lives Matter. Likelihood is somewhere in the middle but either way it is absolutely right it be taken down.
