" Strange feeling "

Fri Jul 10, 2020 9:20 pm

Very strange feeling tonight to reflect on a game we played relatively well in but lost.

I actually think we were the better team but Fulham's quality showed when it came to cutting edge.

Poor deliveries into the box with Paterson, Glatzel and Ward having nothing to go at.

But other than that I don't really have any complaints about the performance.

Exactly the same as how I see it.

We didn't create enough with the amount of ball we seemed to have around their box. Which is very unlike us.

Bit of crossing and free kick practice in the week please Neil.

Dont think can complain to much about performance we were more than competitive just lack that end quality.... unfortunately we had plenty of opportunities to get ball in box but no quality ball to create chances! But not all is lost as all our rivals have got very hard games particularly next two games

Just wish that we'd try to aim the odd free kick or throw in to somebody other than Morrison.

Every other team knows that EVERY set piece will be aimed for Morrison. They just put two or three defenders on him and it is so easy for them to defend against.

We have other decent headers of the ball (Paterson, Nelson, Mendez) but they never get a look in.

Wish we would mix it up a bit. :banghead:

I've consistently said need a city player to be in front Morrison to block off defenders give him a chance to get to ball! But tonight strangely did mix it up but the ball in box was very poor in the extreme

Our set pieces are beyond appalling and they have been for a while, even before lockdown. So predictable, no pace on the ball, no direction.

I can’t remember us even winning one tonight, let alone getting something on target. If we are going to insist on those long throws and just lumping the ball into the box on free kicks, they better start doing some work on getting smarter on how to win the ball.

Bloody commentators every game talk about how good we are at them, but they can’t have been watching us for the last 15/20 games.

I've lost count of the number of games they say how dangerous we are at set pieces only to watch 90 minutes of Morrison being the only option. I think we have improved massively as a defence with Nelson alongside Morrison but we were much more potent at set pieces with Flint up there as well. Perhaps we could use Flint in last 10 minutes up front when chasing the game.

Have to agree,we were in the game, but could not even win the 2nd ball from set pieces? But also agree, fulham could well have been down to nine men, with a ref who knew how to ref!I would have brought ward or Glatzel on at half time too, while we were still only one goal down as well? Tomorrow My two least favourite teams clash, and guess who I will be rooting for ??.if derby also lose,we stay in 6th,with Derby home becoming a massive 6 pointer for both sides,if we win against them,it could be 4 points up,with 2 to play!! Said yesterday, squeaky bum time is well and truly here! Great to be still I with a shout, with 3 to play regardless, and as for the play offs? I hate them in truth, but it is what it is I suppose,a bit of a lottery where form goes out of the window usually, probably because the end prize is so big? Keep the faith :bluescarf: :old: :bluebird:

agree... playing a very decent side. truth be told if Parker had our players to choose from along with his own I doubt he would pick more than 3..
I did think we had enough dead ball situations to cause them far more problems than we did though..

Where do you start with that ref !!!!

Fulham should of had a second penalty but should have been down to nine ( with the one a straight red )

That aside that is the worse in terms of service I have seen from Ralls in a long time, Paterson is a waste of space up front if there's no one close enough to pick up the headers he wins, Sanderson was very poor but wasn't helped much by NML, set pieces were awful.

Tough fixture but gone now look to the next and Keep the Faith :ayatollah:

Another reason Lee Tomlin needs to be on the pitch!

I was going to say the same really, I thought the team was the right one and the players all did their best, I'm not going to criticise any of the players or Manager, it's just one of those games and on their day Fulham are a good team with some very good players.

The penalty really pissed me off, as Mitrovic is clever and made the most of the slight pull on his shirt, Morrison usually has one or two worse every game and we never get the pentalies!

Advantage Swansea, but I would be surprised if they get more than seven points, so two wins and a draw would almost certainly do it?

I agree with that, we are not making the dead ball situations count at the moment!

It’s strange in that we actually look quite sharp and positive with the 1 touches... it’s refreshing to see us move it about. Of course we lack creativity that’s the problem and has been for a while. Mendez looked awesome and I think we have lots to be positive about if Harris keeps the skeleton of this side.

Let’s build and try things for n3xt year as I think we can really push on from here. If we make top 6 it’s a bonus but it hasn’t been an option for months So let’s not be too harsh on them... lots to be positive about imo

My heart sinks when the commentators start going on about how good we are at set pieces because since the return we have been useless at them. Endless long throws from Vaulks which are immediately headed straight out of the box and our free kicks last night were hopeless. Perhaps we got lucky against Leeds and Perton in that we created hardly any chances but took every one we did create while the finishing from Leeds and Preston was poor.

I must admit that before the break I did not think we had the remotest chance of making the playoffs but Harris has done a great job with a fairly average side. Beat Derby and we haves a great chance of sixth place. But I fear we will be easily beaten by Brentford in the playoff semis

5 teams within 3 points of 6th as it stands

Bristol City, winning, Millwall winning. It's bound to go down to goal difference on the final day
