Cardiff City and Derby County were beaten by Blackburn and West Brom respectively, with Swansea City being the biggest winners as they defeated Birmingham City 3-1.
Despite their loss, the Bluebirds continue to cling on to the fourth and final play-off spot with four matches remaining, although they are now just one point above their South Wales rivals.
As for Derby, they - along with Preston - are three points adrift of the top six, while Blackburn and Millwall are a further two points back.
