MURPHY WAS HE WORTH IT?

Sun Jul 05, 2020 12:39 pm

Josh murphy in my opinion has been a total waste of money was it near 11/12 million spent most of his time with us on the bench under both managers.

He's everybody's favourite scapegoat.

He was going to come on yesterday, but then we scored so it made more sense to bring on a defensive player.

He has a role to play this season and I won't be surprised if he surprises some people.

The talent is there.

Think he’s a great talent.. his best years are to come. We paid the market value at the time.

He has the X-factor and can do positive things with a football that no other member of our squad can.

I think a confident Murphy (achieved by vocal support from fans prior and after Covid 19) would have been a better player than the under confident human being getting booed by sections of the home support, who appeared a shadow of his former-self.

Tune of Love of my life - Queen (but sung quicker)

“Love of my life, Josh Murph,
A place in the heart of Cardiff City,
Love of my life Josh Murphy...
Josh Murph, Josh Murphy,
Don’t take him away from me,
Because you don’t know, what he means to me.”

It’s the best I’ve got.

Love the song pal. Yes - we know it's in there, but how do we get it out of him?

The original is slightly better than my version.

Hopefully NH can have an impact on him more than NW because a fit and firing JM could make a difference between promotion and also rans in a play off. If I was NH, I’d get him back to doing the basics well (including effort) and go from there.

I thought at the start of the season he'd really step it up.

He showed glimpses in the Prem; the game against Bournemouth where we won 2-0 at home but he was awesome, a menace going forward and he had Clyne in his pocket all game. He covered our LB all game.

Compare that to the first game of the season away at Wigan and he left our LB isolated in defence all game. Made stupid decisions throughout the match choosing to dribble in dangerous positions when a simple pass was on, and was reckless giving silly fouls away.

That epitomises how hot and cold he blows. Nobody likes tracking back for large spells of a game and keeping things simple, but these are the basics in football. If things aren't going great for you going forward you still have to do the basics.

Like others have said before, sometimes it seems that if he beats his man on the first attempt in a match he's flying and full of confidence. If not, he seems to get dejected quite quickly.

Harris has been positive of Murphy just like Jazz Richards. They can't use excuses, there are so many motivations with their talent, they just need to get the mentality right. :thumbright:

I think he was worth it.
He has been criticised in the past for making poor decisions and taking on too many players. But the poor guy used to be stranded on his own with no one to pass to. Which made him easy to mark out of a game. Now there’s more interplay and Bennett gets forward more often as an option. I think we may see him tear up a few defenders again.

Yes, we gambled on potential. He is well schooled, technical, young and English.

Our vocal fans love a limited trier, other clubs wouldn't have it, but we love a shit cult hero. Any skilled, but slightly temperamentally flawed players get ruthlessly undermined by the "up and at them's"

Hopefully the less direct approach we seem to be adopting will greatly benefit Josh. I think he'll chase the over the full back ball and hassle but he isn't going to go in for 50/50's, we have others for that.

He thinks and move into positions of a forward he is not a midfielder, if anything I would try him as a centre forward rather than expecting him to cover the full back especially if we have Tomlin to feed him. A gamble, yes. But for me he is a goal scorer and we don't have many.

I can't wait for a fit Josh over the next 8 games :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

We should be praying he's at his best because if he's on form he's unplayable in this league =

Only another season will tell with this guy.

He’s certainly good enough with the talent to succeed here but he pisses me off a lot of the time with his couldn’t care less attitude and sulking on the pitch.

He needs to man the f**k up and get stuck in. I’m looking forward to him coming back and hope he improves as I love skilful wingers.

fans want everything....but seen loads of players like Josh over the years, who if you can get them to...get stuck in.. have no aptitude for it and either become complete liabilities making wild rash tackles or injure themselves..

He’s our most valuable player and has great potential, let’s hope Harris can get him performing to his potential.

Mendez, Murphy, Hoilette - any 2 out of those 3 to start most matches.

The team playing great at the moment, having murphy is an added bonus. He can turn it on like the others - he just needs to be fired up. I think he's the sort that needs an arm round the should rather than a boot up the backside

Hmmm ! That statement rings a bell (acorn)in fairness to Murphy, he undoubtedly has the talent, and is too old to be saying he has potential? The difference between the two,is Murphy in my eyes has been struggling with the mental side of it all, wasn't he quoted as saying he was homesick?? But if he comes back with the attitude to match his talent,he will be a huge asset in the games remaining this season, play offs especially ,let's hope he's on point  :old: :bluebird:

Has he been worth the 11m/12m we paid for him so far? probably not, but I think there's quite a few reasons for that, and I never understood Neil Warnock signing him to fit in his system particularly considering what Warnock asks of wingers to do defensively and its just not Murphy's game. However I think given time under Harris we may see a different Josh Murphy and one who's not asked to defend 80% of the time but given a free role going forward and given the confidence by Harris to express himself. I look at the game against Huddersfield away under Harris this season and that run he made off the ball for Tomlin to find him and the finish was Premier League class but im hoping we can just get that type of ability and class more consistently from him which we couldn't get under Warnock but im slightly more hopeful under Harris.

Cracking player. Tons of ability. Still with us too so we can’t evaluate whether or not he’s worth what we’ve paid when he hasn’t finished showing us what he can do

A good answer Monty boy.

For me, I'd like to see him have a good run under Harris to see if he can live up to the high price tag.

He was a waste of money in the sense that what really needed when we signed him was a premiership quality right back and striker.

Was he worth it?

Well murphy really made an impression "not" 1 cute pass after bennet gave him a shout and 1 long range shot.

We’d get about 3 mill for him if we were to sell him I reckon.
Lazy & over rated. I would much rather have a Gavin Whyte in my team.

CAERPHILLY BLUEBIRD 15

i though i was the only one on this thread that though he was a waste along with warnock
the thing i do not like about him is his attidude he wanted away when bobby reid left for fulham i think he wanted to go with him and he almost deliberatly played sh.t from what i could see and gave up in games
and warnock spotted it to in trainning.

Lost faith in Murphy. The money we spent on him, is like Man City spending 100 million and not playing him. Last night Paterson came on as they knew he would be determined and run. Murphy should be ashamed that the manager picks a player whose ability is limited but does the basic points every player should do. Look how Sterling for Man City runs his heart out.
