When he’s given a start he’s not as effective.

But if it’s him or Paterson are the only choices (if Glatzel is unfit) it has to be Ward (if not Murphy).

No more Paterson

It's not a straight-forward argument.

Danny Ward is a fantastic impact player from the bench, he's got great movement and holds the ball well, but he won't cover the yards Pato will, Pato has superb stamina and presses from the front quite well. Wardy hasn't got that in his locker. Ward may be the best sub striker in the Championship, you know exactly what you're going to get and I get the feeling he watches the match from the bench figuring out how he's going to hurt the opposition.

Paterson isn't offering enough in build-up and hold-up play right now, but, we're involving the wingers and Joe Ralls far more than usual, Pato is that first line of defence and clearly he unsettles the opposition ready for an impact sub, as strange as that seems. He is a strange player, but his record shows we've been a club on the up since he's been involved so it's not as straightforward as it seems to just replace him with Ward from the start. Let's not forget, we have a 100% win record since in games he's started since we've been back. :ayatollah:

Very good goal that was.. pass and finish. He’s very effective against a tired defence. Pity it’s not the 90..

Need to offer him a contract, great squad player who has never let us down when fit and called upon.

Ward should be starting

Patterson although works hard and gives 100% is not a striker no matter what arguement people make and we need better if we want to go up

Nobody can make a valid argument for Paterson as CF.

Reminds me when Dwyer and Went were played as makeshift CF’s but they could head a football.

Glatzel s fitness will be very instrumental in how this season pans out

Daft to say Ward should start. He is an impact player. Play him from the start and we won't win. Paterson gets stick but he gets the team solid from the start, even Ward admited in the post match interview. For what ever reason starting Ward or Glatzel won't work from the start in the remaining games.

I bet the conversation in the dugout goes something like this..

Harris..’ who can we bring on to score’

Livermore.. ‘what about Danny Ward’..

What a team..

Apologies if anyone has already mentioned it but what is the contract situation with Ward, as for some reason I seem to recollect that he was leaving, which I hope he's not?

I thought he was leaving too but had extended his contract to the end of this season. Think he is a better finisher than Patterson and should have been used more than he has been this season. He has never really been given a good run in the team since joining us.For all his great work rate Patto seems to have lost his scoring touch at the moment. Would not mind at all if we extended Wards contract.

I thought he made a difficult goal look easy. The margin of error was about a foot either way; either the goalie saves it or it goes wide - but it was perfect.

Thanks for that, I hope he stays as for the limited time I've seen him looks good.

This is true, he was leaving, then agreed to extend his contract until seasons end, then we need to offer him a new deal, say a two year contract, and see how he goes,he certainly knows where the net is,and could prove pivotal in the last 5 games.he took one glance, and buried that chance with aplomb, great ball again by tomlin though, that must be said, another that will be crucial in the run in,I love paterson, but not sure why? he's a bit potty, but maybe it's that I like, always good to have a joker in the pack  :old: :bluebird:

Cardiff City boss Neil Harris says he wants to continue working with Danny Ward beyond this season when the striker's contract expires.

Ward, 28, joined Cardiff from Rotherham in 2017 and came off the bench to earn a late win against Bristol City on Saturday and keep the Bluebirds' play-off bid on track.

But Harris added contract talks with any players will have to wait until the end of the season.
