NEIL HARRIS IS FUMING AS CITY SET TO LOSE A PLAYER

Cardiff City and Nottingham Forest come to impasse over Albert Adomah contract as Neil Harris hits out at EFL

The player is out of contract at Cardiff City on June 30 but so far there has been no announcement that the club will extend his contract until the end of the season

As things stand, it means Tuesday's clash against Charlton may be the last time fans see Adomah in a Cardiff shirt.

Neil Harris has criticised the EFL over a lack of leadership regarding the extension of player loans as he revealed Cardiff City have hit an impasse with Nottingham Forest over agreeing a contract extension for Albert Adomah.

The Ghanaian winger joined the Bluebirds on deadline day back in January and has featured in every league game since under Harris.

He has been a consistent performer for City and has earned widespread acclaim from the club's supporters since moving to the Welsh capital.

However, when football stopped because of the outbreak of coronavirus, it threw a whole manner of things into disarray, not least players' contracts.

Loan deals typically end on June 30, however clubs have been left to their own devices to sort out individual extensions, with the Championship play-off final now penned in for August 4.

Bournemouth this week announced that Brad Smith would stay with the Bluebirds until the end of the campaign, while Harris is confident Wolves loanee Dion Sanderson will also be staying.

NEIL HARRIS:

When it comes to Adomah, though, the Bluebirds boss is less certain of what the immediate future holds.

"As far as I know, Dion has pretty much agreed [to stay on until the end of the season]," Harris said after Cardiff's 3-1 win over Preston.

"Wolves are OK there.

"Forest is a different matter. Forest is not straightforward. We are in dialogue with Forest at the moment.

"The bottom line with Albert is I want him to stay. I've picked him for every game he has been at the club for.

"Albert wants to stay and finish the season here, so we have to keep working with Forest to try and make it happen."

Adomah has put in two solid performances since the season restarted last weekend and has been a welcome addition to the Bluebirds' ranks this season.

His signing has coincided with Cardiff's charge up the table and the win over Preston moved City into the play-off spots with just seven games to go.

Another team vying for play-off spots, of course, is Forest, Adomah's parent club.

And while Harris was coy over whether Forest's delaying tactics were down to them being play-off rivals, he believes it shouldn't have come down to this in the first place, stating the EFL should have been more proactive in how they dealt with these kinds of disputes before the restart.

NEIL HARRIS:

"Possibly," Harris said when asked about whether this ordeal might have come about because Forest are also battling for a top-six spot. "That will be down for Forest to answer at the moment.

"I think the EFL have to take a long, hard look at themselves as well.

"It might end up with clubs in dispute when the EFL should have taken leadership and ownership of this and made loans compulsory to be finished.

"So, my gripe at the moment is with the EFL in particular."

As things stand, it means Tuesday's clash against Charlton may be the last time fans see Adomah in a Cardiff shirt.

Albert Adomah: Cardiff boss Neil Harris critical of EFL over winger loan doubt

BBC

Albert Adomah has started both of Cardiff's games since the Championship resumed

Cardiff City manager Neil Harris says the English Football League should have ensured loan deals are extended until the end of the Championship campaign.

Harris says the Bluebirds are unsure of extending the loan of winger Albert Adomah from Nottingham Forest to the end of the coronavirus-delayed season.

Cardiff moved into the play-offs on Saturday and fifth-place Forest might be unwilling to aid a promotion rival.

"I think the EFL have to take a long, hard look at themselves," Harris said.

Both of Cardiff's loan players with deals expiring at the end of June impressed for the Bluebirds in Saturday's 3-1 win at Preston that saw them leapfrog the Lancashire side.

The Cardiff boss says he is confident of keeping defender Dion Sanderson on loan from Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers, but says Adomah's future is uncertain.

NEIL HARRIS:

"As far as I know, Dion has pretty much agreed and Wolves are okay; Forest is a different matter," he told BBC Sport Wales.

"Forest is not as straight forward, we're in dialogue with Forest at the moment. The bottom line with Albert is I want him to stay. I've picked him in every game he's been at the club for,

"Albert wants to stay and finish the season here. So we have to keep working with Forest to try and make it happen."

When asked whether the issue was that Cardiff and Forest are both going for the play-offs, Harris said: "Possibly, I think that's a question for Forest to answer.

"It might end up with clubs in dispute over players when the EFL should've taken leadership and ownership over this and made it compulsory for loans to be finished," Harris added. "So my gripe at the moment is with the EFL in particular."

To be honest I think it’s quite dirty tactics. What’s the reason they need him back? Are they suddenly really short of players or have injured players? If you have been loaned a player for the rest of the season than it should stand - that’s the agreement. They wouldn’t have taken him off us in March so why now? The reason we took him is so that we would have enough resources in that area of the field - we didn’t agree to take him on the basis of - well we will hand him back before the season is over because that would leave us short - otherwise we would have probably gone for another option. It’s obvious why they want him back to leave us short and if we were down the bottom of the table I bet they wouldn’t care. Dirty tactics and to be honest like what happened to derby and their dirty snow tactics on our promotion season karma will come back to bite them in the end!

He has been OK for us but if Mendez-Laing is back to full fitness most would think he is a bit better than Adomah. Decent enough player though you only get 60 minutes out of him these days but he is in no way crucial to whether we mak the playoffs or not.

its all opinions.. for me NMLs pace is devastating but he doesn't have too many of the bursts in his tank..im more than happy with performances and results and as said its the manager that picks the team and he has seen Adomah as important enough to start..

At first I thought this was out of order, but then read a comment on social media saying how Cardiff City were keen to stick to the end of the original seasons dates when it come to releasing out of contract players and that they can’t have it both ways. I tend to agree with this, unless of course the players such as Jazz and Connolly were offered slightly longer contracts like Ward.

If forest had one of our players and he was on form winning them games I would want him back aswell.
We are there main rival for a play off Spot, if they have a chance to weaken us i would expect them to take it and I would expect us to do the same. Football is a business and the best business decision for forest is to not extend the loan.
