Any good routes from pontcanna to wentloog avoiding busy main road if possible

No, it’s pretty much non-existent, you’ve only got the 4238, or A48 and drop down, but that’s out of the way. All the good routes are in central Cardiff to the North. There is a plan under cycleways Cardiff for a route, but no timetable as far as I know..

The only way is through town centre then either Newport Rd,Broadway back on to Newport Rd to Rover Way on to Lamby Way.
Or through Town, Splott Tremorfa then on to Rover Way

Most of Newport Road has cycle lanes from town to Rumney hill on the pavements but vary across both sides of road. At the bottom of Rumney hill you can turn down New Road which is much quieter to Lamby Road Bridge then over that towards Wentloog.

Or drive to Newport on the A48 to Dyffryn..there’s a cycle track back to Marshfield, part on road. Route 88.
