What is he doing

Get a grip Drakeford. England, Scotland and Ireland pro active. We are STILL living within 5 miles. Madness. We are going to suffer serious economic disaster. People with a business are going to lose them. Huge employment will suffice. And all because of a ridiculously over cautious approach. Sheer madness. We have become an extremely insular backwater. This situation and the Brynglass tunnel fiasco means we will now not attract business here. He and his colleagues might live locally and command huge salaries but not everyone is in the same position. Absolutely ridiculous

They are making Wales stand out. That alone is good news for them as it means that they are actually doing something different. Whether it’s right or wrong doesn’t matter to him.

The reason why he can be so cautious is that the furlough grant and most self employed grants are coming from the UK government. If it came out of the WAG budget he would have had us all back weeks ago.

He's stated several times WG cannot support several institutions that are devolved yet he's insistent on keeping rules that will cost them millions of lost income! There is a lot of stuff people are not aware of that is going to massively impact on their lives health is one :old:

What is he doing ? - he'd playing political games basically.

The UK Govt pays his furlough bills for him - so he can be as cautious as he wants to be.

What he doesnt seem to realise is that tourism / food is a massive part of the welsh economy - especially outside Cardiff / Newport / Swansea.

Castell Howell looking like they are on the brink - as all their customers are bars, cafes, hotels, pubs and sporting facilities. If they go down , they take all the secondary jobs with them. Farmers, food packers, chefs, pub workers etc etc.

Yep the 5 miles is a nonsense and always was.

As I've said before, it's not about how far you travel it's about what you do when you get to your destination. If you're still observing social distancing and the places you are going to can cope then why limit to 5 miles ?

I know it's being lifted on 6th July but why the hell are we waiting so long ? We have lower rates than England yet we're way behind on recovery.

Hes always based jus decisions on the R rate which was 0.7 at times of decision? last week it was 0.9 so will he carry on lifting restrictions and go against his principles proving he's a plonker or do nothing much which is disastrous for Wales....
Ps...R rate is totally unreliable with the low cases of corvid according to experts (probably not his) :D

Spot on.

I think the Welsh Government said that the rate of infection is now 1 in 20,000 but it was 1 in less than 1,000 not long ago.

That R rate also includes transmissions in care homes and hospitals which are not in the wider community.

Even the recent outbreaks in North Wales and Merthyr appear not to have been spread more widely.

He really needs to listen to the science as he claims.

Just when you thought cannot get any worse
whilst rest UK as set out dates to open pubs ect our finance minister ms Evans says "quote " timings could not be provided in Wales "because it's very, very difficult to know where the coronavirus will be in the weeks and months ahead". "un quote " so guess they will wait until xmas see where the corvid levels are before announcing pubs be open in time for holiday season 2022!

The whole WA is a shambles, people promoted way above their actual ability. Thousands of people losing their jobs in Wales while they just dither and try to score points is pathetic

The 5 mile rule is ridiculous, its all about what you do when you get there not the actual distance you travel to get there. Everyone in the Country knows that apart from Dripford it would appear

Also, to say they were acting on medical advice by not testing old people before sending them from hospital into care homes is just plain stupid and an insult to the people who died. Name me one medical expert who would think it was a good idea not to test them??? Gethin the chip has got a lot to answer for

The absolute irony is that nobody listens to him anyway. 5 miles 2 households blabla. People still drinking in Bay tonight. Let the pubs and hotels open as they will take care and remove this pent up desire to go mad at least in some way!!

From what I have seen on my social media the only people that seem to like it LIKE it and they tend to be very VERY nationalistic and refuse to entertain the idea some of us are happy being British. I have found them to be highly intolerant and find any excuse to be angry. Examples include the planned military medicine museum wanting to locate to Cardiff bay and branding south east Wales as part of the Western Gateway - ignoring the fact that Cardiff is proposed to be the central part of it figuratively called the Capital Region.

Can they just not leave those of us happy with it alone and let us try and all pull together as one and build something positive?

I will never want an independent Wales. I like being British. At present the only people I feel oppressed by are in the Welsh assembly or whatever other name they want to use. The English are NOT oppressing me or anyone else I know. When I ask what oppression we would be escaping I am met with a barrage of abuse or some historical wrong doings which do NOT happen now. If anything it has gone the other way. Plenty of talk of the Welsh knot but no acceptance of my view that I do not want my child FORCED to study Welsh. By all means make it an option and absolutely encourage it. But what if I wanted them to learn Portugese?? In less covidy times we go a few times a year. That would be far more beneficial.
Again. When this point is raised, I get a barrage of how important it is for kids to be bilingual. I dont doubt it. Why does it HAVE to be Welsh?

There. I said it. I am a proud Welshman but I am a committed Unionist. Love the banter with the English. They do not oppress me.

What a plonker! While we can go to Spain ect from English airports ( who's going to stop people travelling from Wales?) WG has not done anything to follow suit for rhoose in fact its idiotic that we can go to Spain for holidays but cannot go to Wales on caravan holiday ( caravan parks still closed) or go to pub or cafè? He is looking more and more like an incompetent fool day by day :banghead:

No decision has been made on whether Wales will follow England and ease restrictions on non-essential overseas travel, the Welsh Government has said.

From 6 July people in England can travel to some European countries without having to spend 14 days in quarantine on their return.

Tourism in Wales is not due to re-open until the following week on 13 July.

The UK government is responsible for border controls, but health and the response to the pandemic is devolved.
This means any quarantine measures would need to be approved by the Welsh Government.

The UK Foreign Office advice against all but essential international travel has been in place since 17 March.

But under its new rules, a traffic light system will be introduced - with countries classified as green, amber or red depending on the prevalence of coronavirus. The UK is likely to discuss arrangements with countries over the coming days.

Agree with you - this 5 mile is nonsense and you give good reason to why .
