Cardiff Chairman Dalman Says:How many players will go

Sat Jun 20, 2020 7:40 pm

Cardiff City Mehmet Dalman painted a bleak picture for the Championship's financial future and suggested players would have to leave Cardiff City this summer.

On the Bluebirds' summer transfer plans, he said: "Everyone has got to go from chasing rainbows in the Championship, trying to get into the Premier League to producing your own players through the academy, selling them to survive and following the French model to be creative rather than spending tonnes of money to get promoted.”

DALMAN:

"Someone asked me: ‘What sort of budget will Cardiff have for this summer’s window?’ I actually think the question should be: ‘How many players are we going to let go?’ Football is going through its worst crisis, certainly since the Second World War.”

“Already we have decided not to renew Danny Wards contract and Jazz Richards, expect more to leave Cardiff City this summer.”

Sanders, Smith and Abomah going back to their clubs. Richard's and Ward leaving. Bogle, Brown, Whyte, Vassell will be told to find another club and I think Etheridge, Morrison, Murphy and Ralls will all be put up for sale.

I don't know how much Tan business has been effected by Covid and that may have an impact on the club but unless the Parachute payments is to be cut back our cash flow will hardly have been effected at all. Gate money is peanuts compared to the Parachute money which will keep us going for 12 months without any other income.

The question also includes how many clubs will be willing to take any of our players? I would guess very few as very one is in the same boat.

I would look to offload

Day ( not god enough )
Richard's ( injury prone )
Bamba (move into management)
Cunningham ( bennett is better
Bacuna ( too inconsistent )
Hoilett (age)
Whyte ( not good enough )
Vassell ( Injury prone )
Bogle ( league 1 at best )
Glatzel ( not good enough and big wages )

I could also see one of either Etheridge or Smithies leaving and possibly one of the centre backs

The gate money contributes to the overall budget. Last time we were in the Championship Gate Money and Match Day revenue raised £5m although the Gate Receipts are only affected by the final 5 home games. Despite the Parachute Payments being £42.6m it is still a significant loss of revenue which the club would be better off having.

Next season the club will take another probably bigger hit on Match Day Revenues as fans will be barred from attending until at least December and even when they are allowed in the numbers will probably be significantly down due to social distancing and older fans being reluctant to attend mass gatherings.

Day could be an affordable back up keeper, but I wouldn't argue with any of the others. The problem is apart from the out of contract players like Jazz Richards who we can release the others would require another club to take on the wages of these players as they won't leave for less cash and can sit on their contracts with us.

I would guess that ALL Championship clubs have taken a massive hit during the COVID-19 crisis and will be looking to cost cut rather than spending money they don't have on our deadwood.

Re last paragraph, I don't see how clubs - in any division- can sell Season Tickets next season, at least until social distancing is eliminated all together. If 2020/21 kicks off in September that's a couple of months' away..

if they opened the upper stand I wonder how many people they could get in the ground if they socially distanced the seats ? - that is a spare seat left - right - front and back.

Maybe we'll find that we are asked if we want to attend or not ? and they can work out who sits where.

Personally I think things will look a lot different come September - it just depends whether people feel confident and comfortable enough to go back.

The one metre rule change would help.Plus if they sold season tickets with the option of watching it on the website :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

That would be a great idea

However, Sky would probably not be keen.

You are probably right which is why our (& every other club's) match day revenue will be hit hard.

It depends what Division we’re in who will go but if we’re still in the Championship Etheridge or Smithies will go dependant on who we get the most for! Day will stay as back up,
Richards, Bogle,Ward and Connelly are gone!
Bennet or Cunningham will go depending who we get an offer for!
Bacuna,Hoilett,Glazel and Whyte will stay,Harris type footballers,
Flint,Vassell and Pack to go if we can get any offers,
Bamba depends on if Warnock gets a job!
If we’re In Premiership, Both Goalkeepers, Left Backs and Centre Backs will stay!

I have got feeling that if a club were to make a bid for ANY of our players they will be gone.

Pretty much how I see it. Every player has his price, and to be fair, most players in the past would be gone for a decent price, but I can now see players being moved on for relatively modest sums, or even free,,, just to get them off the payroll.

We have all been wishing this model for many a season now. thing is is how many of us are willing ot accept that we could drop back into League one while we transition into this?

When the likes of Ramsey and adams were coming through with others showing the same potential it look positive. Then overnight that went out of the window. What happened there? I think we have a few seasons ahead to get back to that stage.

Re: Cardiff Chairman Dalman Says:How many players will go

Don't think it's such a bad thing , clubs can now take back some control and maybe stop having to pay ridiculous fees for some really average players. :ayatollah:

Re: Cardiff Chairman Dalman Says:How many players will go

The problem is we are going to have great difficulty getting rid of any players who are still in contract with us. For example who would be stupid enough to sign Vassel given his injury record? Clubs are not going to be making many signings for the next year or so. If we are relying on our youth set up to produce players it could be a problem. If we had relied on our youth set up to produce players over the last few years we would now be in the conference south.
