POLL: FOOTBALL RETURN - HIT OR MISS?

Thu Jun 18, 2020 1:43 am

Crowd-free football returned to our screen last night, so we ask the question...

Welcome return and a good effort by Sky to create a bit of an atmosphere for TV, but it got annoying after a while and just seemed like a constant drone. We all know that during a game there are loud periods and quiet periods, but that was one level.

Hit with me. It was nice to have some football to watch (and talk about). Although, If it ain't City I probably only ever have one eye on the telly and be doing work on laptop or on my phone. So it's nice to have a bit of noise. I turned it off for a bit, very weird.

Hit for me. It was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. I thought that it was better to watch with the simulated crowd noises than without. Maybe they can improve this as time goes on. But , given the circumstances, it was a good start and I'm glad to see football back.

I'm undecided

Nice to have football back

But not the same with no crowd, the fake crowd at the Villa game got annoying for me.

To be honest a bit of a miss for me. I turned over for the second half to Sky 2 where they had no simulated crowd noise and that improved it for me. Maybe it will take a couple of games to get players up to speed but it looked very slow for a lot of the time.

By contrast BT seem to have got it right with the Bundesliga which I have really enjoyed since it came back. The crowd noise is not over bearing and I have really enjoyed getting to know the teams better - the games just seem more exciting and there is still a lot riding on the final two matches to come. Some really top notch young players out there too.

Perhaps Liverpool's inevitable title has taken the edge off the Premiership for me, not that I begrudge it to them, but other than the minor places there is not a lot for the top sides to play for. It will be a whole different ball game when the Championship returns though...

Leipzig are a joy to watch

A hit for me. Even though I didn’t watch, due to work, I still kept in touch with what was going on. It’s a step in the right direction that’s for sure,,,, even playing behind closed doors,,, for the time being.

No atmosphere, no intensity and just like watching a pre-match friendly for me (and I avoid them like the plague too !!).

Miss for me but it may have been the games.

Missed the first 10 min of the villa game, turned on and went instinctively to 401 and the crowd noise annoyed me more than anything. I guess if you play video games its second nature, but i don't. It felt fake and out of context, i am sure i heard "c'mon you spurs" at one point and when was the last time villa had an atmosphere ?
Realised in the second half there were different versions of the game, settled on the game without sound affects and preferred it.

Onto the Citeh Arsenal game and watched for 30 mins and was bored silly. Maybe it was the style, I am older and have watched direct football most of my life. Keeper, centre half, keeper, centre half, defensive midfielder, keeper with 50% possession and territory stats is not my thing.

Haven't seen any German football to compare atmosphere enhancements.

If you love football then you probably bare it, but I only watch CCFC, Wales and the big premier league games (i do prefer championship games as a neutral). Man U spurs will be a better acid test as they are a better watch.

Bayern, Dortmund,Leipzig, Leverkusen, Monchengladbach all go at teams for the full 90 minutes and play some terrific attacking football, but even the teams at the lower end of the league such as Mainz can be excellent in some of their movement; they scored two goals Man City would have been proud of last night against Dortmund.

Not exactly exciting games but I'll be up at 4.00am to watch city play so a hit as I'm just happy to have it back to bring some normalcy to life.

Just enjoying it being back to be honest.

It's not the same, but we all knew that would be the case.

Watching the League Two play-offs tonight and enjoying the first game.

Quality of football will improve after the first week or so once players have played a match.

Totally agree with you,,,, I watching it to. Doesn’t seem that long ago the City was playing in this very same play off competition.

PS, good idea the fans cardboard cutout thing.....

Of course it’s a hit, why wouldn’t it be?

We all know it’s not the same, it’s not as exciting etc. but the game is back playing and for this season that’s the main thing.

We get chance to watch City again although under weird circumstances but that’s still a positive thing for me.

Hit.

Hit.

3 months without the football seems an age.

We all knew it would be weird with no crowd but it's just good to have it back and a few games in hopefully match sharpness will return

:)

Big hit for me, I’ve missed my football fix albeit watching on the tv but still that’s better than not having it at all.
Bring on Sunday, I can’t wait

A hit for me, good to see some football back. The games were lacklustre though and the piped crowd noise was offputting. When the Sheffield United goal was disallowed, they should have played 'the referee's a wanker' to keep it realistic.

German league has overtaken the prem for me

It's more exciting and passionate

Before the lockdown I watched Schalke

There fans were loud, dancing about having a whale of a time

And they were losing :D

I think it's a sham to be honest.
I said from the start of all this that all football should be cancelled and I stand by that comment.

im going to watch but agree its a bit of a farce..

Re: POLL: FOOTBALL RETURN - HIT OR MISS?

The games are soulless spectacles. Fans make football, without them it is not the same game. Its like watching parks football but with a tad more skill.

If fans dont get into the stadiums until next calendar year then i really fear for the future of the sport. People will find other things to do and once a fan is lost they are usually lost for good.
