Marcus Rashford

Mon Jun 15, 2020 11:02 am

Footballers are regularly in the news for doing stupid things or being out of touch with the real and many are However this young player could teach many others a think or two Listening to him today he comes across as a very down to earth lad with his feet firmly planted on the ground He has help raise over £20m

A great example to all footballers

Fantastic and proves all footballers are not self centered airheads.
Don’t agree with the stats he quoted though, 45% of BAME or almost a third of children generally, are not living in poverty in the UK. It’s hyperbolic inaccurate bollox and detracts from his message.

Re: Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford has called on the government to reverse a decision not to provide free school meal vouchers during the summer, saying that "the system isn't built for families like mine to succeed".

The Manchester United and England forward has raised about £20m to supply three million meals to vulnerable people while working with charity FareShare UK during the coronavirus lockdown.

Campaigners have threatened to bring legal action against the government for not extending the food voucher scheme into the summer holidays.

In an emotional open letter to MPs drawing on his own experiences of relying on free school meals and food banks growing up, Rashford said his story is "all too familiar for families in England".

Speaking to BBC Breakfast about the letter, Rashford, 22, said: "It's written from the heart and it's about how my life was at the moment - the letter is to open up and let people understand the impact on families and to know I've done the right thing.

"What families are going through now, I've once had to go through that - and it's very difficult to find a way out. It's very important for me to help people who are struggling. Whether the outcome changes or doesn't change - that's why I wrote it."

A great example to all footballers

A credit to himself, his family, his community and his (current) club; just goes to show how blinkered we are by boxing people on perceptions rather than facts

Relaying on food vouchers to feed children would easily fall into the category of poverty.

not sure how old you are but if your over 50 you have a very very short memory or were very privileged...
roof over head, food on the table...priorities 1 and 2...…..flat screens, cars, nike gear, mobile phones , video games etc etc way down the list.. not this no money for food because those things are now essentials.. there is no good reason for anyone to be without food if you prioritise food as humans have done until recently for the whole of history...

You are talking about relative poverty.

Absolute poverty is absolute poverty. No food to eat. No heating..... not hard.

im talking about ?
im talking about a point where you cannot put food on the table due to not prioritising it.... that's the post I answered and it does not exist here no matter how you want to twist it... even the communists didn't push that one very hard it was a filler in between giving free broadband , free trains and planting millions of trees

You sound like one hell of a compassionate son of a bitch......

But it is pleasing to learn from you that no child in UK goes hungry. And if they do, it's because they saved their dinner money for a new X-Box.

You don't half talk some bollox..... x
