I don't want this to sound like I'm trying to defend any of them here, but the pre symptomatic and asymptomatic transmission of this disease was always going to make this difficult to keep clear of vulnerable communities. Once it was widespread in the community it was always going to be almost impossible to keep out. We underpinned a nursing home a couple of years ago and it always staggered how many people worked there. It was quite big, but there must have been 100 staff that at anyone time, maybe more. The bus would pull up at a shift change and sometimes 20 workers a time would get off and go into the home. They themselves often from difficult social living conditions where we now know the disease has been more prevalent.

It's one of the biggest scandals of the whole crisis in my opinion.

Elderly patients who had either not been tested in hospital (where the virus was rife) and even elderly patients who had tested positive sent into care homes in order to free up beds for the massive influx of coronavirus patients that never arrived.

What did they think would happen in those nursing homes with elderly, vulnerable people being looked after by people who often had either inadequate or indeed no PPE?

What did the "experts" predict would happen as a result of that?

You could almost make a case to say it was a form of manslaughter.

And who made the decision to send these poor people out into care homes? Was it the Government? Was it the local authority?

Or was it the sainted NHS managers who decided?

Hopefully when the dust on all this settles (if it ever does) there will be some very tough questions to answer about how this shocking state of affairs was allowed to occur.
