Cardiff City “one of the contenders” to sign 18-goal Blackpool striker

Cardiff City are “one of the contenders” to sign Blackpool’s Armand Gnanduillet, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

The striker is set to leave Bloomfield Road on a free transfer when his contract expires this summer and is expected to be a man in demand.

Gnanduillet, who is 28 years old, scored 18 goals in all competitions this past season for the Tangerines, four more than he managed in the 2018/19 campaign.

The France-born striker started his career with spells as a youngster at Le Havre and AS Poissy before moving to England six years ago to join Chesterfield.

He went on to make 98 appearances for the Spirerites and scored 13 goals altogether, as well as having loan spells away at Tranmere Rovers, Oxford United and Stevenage.

Gnanduillet left Chesterfield to sign for Leyton Orient in January 2016 for an undisclosed and spent two years with the London outfit, chipping in with four goals.

He then joined Blackpool in August 2016 and has been a big player for the Seasiders since then. He helped them gain promotion from League Two in his first season at the club and then consolidate their position in the third tier.

Cardiff boss Neil Harris will be keen on putting his own stamp on the Bluebirds this summer as he gears up for his first full season in charge of the Welsh side and could boost his attack by landing Gnanduillet.

Definately not. Has been a lower division journeyman for almost all of his career. Has had onea good season for Blackpool but there is absolutely no indication he is capable of playing any higher than league one.cWould not touch him with a barge poll at championship level. Might be ok for a league one club on a free.

No better than Bogle or Vassell.

Don't know much about him but surely with that record he would be a improvement on the current bunch which doesn't say much.

We are going to be left with just Glatzel and Patterson up front next season as it looks unlikely that Vassell will be fit even if he is good enough which nobody knows.

This guy has a decent record
He will be free
He will be cheap wages

He would be a decent squad filler as we have little money to spend on a proper striker.

Surely not. Couldn’t hit a barn door with a banjo at Chesterfield.

Ihave too agree, surely by now the club has learn't that signing these lower league players does not always work out best for the club, fine if we were getting relagated but for now leave him there

Before we do anything I think it would be prudent to check his injury record considering how many sick notes we have previously signed.

I still cant believe some on here are still moaning about Patterson he actually scored goals in the premiership and loves it at Cardiff and is proud to wear the bloody shirt and gives 100% but he knows where the net is and is better than strikers we have spent millions on so how a player in league 1 at 28 so no youngster would be better either.

I would play Patterson upfront before any other we got to be honest

Be honest though he is not a striker . He can fill a gap when needed but hes not a starter for a full campaign up front

Why is Paterson not a striker?

He has all the attributes including the most valuable which is having the knack of being in the right place at the right time. He scored 33 goals in 137 appearances for Hearts whilst mainly playing as a right back which proves he has goal prowess.

I'm concerned at throwing another £1m or so down the drain buying more players who are no better than we already have. Give him the legs and install him our main striker.

I agree he has a knack for being in the right place but he has missed a lot of sitters aswell which he should really score.

He even said himself in one interview he doesnt see himself in the position permanently and he prefers to play forward wide midfield.

I like Patterson and he gives 100% every game but he does not have all the attributes needed. He has very little pace, doesnt have a natural finishing ability and does not read the game very well from a striking point of view when attacking.

What he does have is a big strong frame and is good at winning headers, puts himself in the box and is not scared to get stuck in which is why people like him.

In reality he seems more suited to being a defensive midfielder than a striker who makes late runs into the box for loose balls which is where he gets most of his goals.

I would play him in Packs position personally
