Genuinely excited for the finale

Fri Jun 12, 2020 8:21 am

I am what you would call a football optimist, however, this season I've really struggled to stay optimistic. I have no love for any of our current crop of players (Ralls aside), that's not saying I dislike our players. I just don't get that genuine excitment when they are on the pitch, unlike teams of the past.

That said after 10/11 weeks of no football and being stuck at home, I can't wait to sit down and watch the mighty Bluebirds, can't meet with the usual crowd as we are in lockdown, so planning a virtual drink and banter while we all watch the promotion push.

I have a really good feeling that we will make the play offs and for some reason think we will be in the Premier league next season.

Are you guys planning anything to watch with your usual footy friends?

What are your thoughts on the play off push?

You make a good point about the having no love for any of the current crop of players.

We have always had a player who was seen as a hero or we were desperate to have in the side every week like a Peter Whittingham or Robert Earnshaw. The closest we probably have is Bamba but he will hardly play anymore. The rest are average players who have not really connected with the fans for some reason. The connection over the last few seasons was Warnock not the players but even he is gone now.

As for the play offs I think it depends on those first 3 games. We need minimum of 5 points out of them to have a chance. I think we will scrape through by a point or goal difference. Either way it will go all the way to the final week

It’s weird that Joe Ralls isn’t seen as a bit of a club hero at this time. He’s the closest thing to “One of our own” we’ve had for a while. He’s been here since he was 16, goal on his debut (was it a debut when he scored against hull?) Plays like a typically loved Cardiff player with his work rate, over 200 appearances for us, has been captain. He kind of fits that player we have always had that is a fans favourite.

I for one really need a fan favourite, Tomlin is that kind of player but needs to be out on the grass more, which I think will come.

I may be offside here gents

But if I'm honest I'd rather another few seasons in the championship.

Time to build a decent squad of players and be in a position to stay in the prem and move on.

I hated the first time in the prem due to the obvious colour change and found the last time very painful to endure.

Watching your team absolutely more often than not battered week in week out wasnt fun.

Many say at least we get to see football's best talent but I'd rather see us with our own talent challenging them.

And to do that we know Tan is reluctant to buy players so I feel our scouting, youth set up needs a massive overhaul and youth developed better and brought through the ranks.

I agree that the squad and general set up, would probably mean another yo-yo season, but I think you have to endure the promotion relegation bounce.

We need to ensure we keep improving the squad and lowering the expenditure with bringing through youth and blending the youth in with the first team.

Good point with promotion/relegation bounce

But do we still get the parachute payments ?

Yes, that’s the trick take payment go straight back up. Keep improving. Unfortunately it would probably take another relegation and promotion before we could look at cementing a premier league status.

Ah I see as for some reason I thought the payments were stopping.

Well if that's the case a few years of bouncing back and forth, sort the finances and rebuild is the best option.

I'm torn. For the first time ever I feel that going up might not be good for us. However if you won the lottery tonight would you think it might have been better 2 years down the line? At least if you're in the promised land you have a chance. We only went down by 2 points last time
