Some Sunderland fans have reacted to recent comments made by Neil Warnock over his love for the club and regret that he did take the managers job in 1993.

Speaking earlier this month to The Friday Football Social on 5Live as quoted by Sunderland Echo, Warnock revealed that he had been approached by the Wearside club whilst he was manager of Notts County.

During his time with the Magpies, the now 71-year-old manager led them to the First Division before being sacked in December.

Months before his exit from County, however, it has been revealed that then-Sunderland owner Bob Murray offered Warnock the managerial job at the club.

Sunderland, who have missed out on gaining a play-off place this season after the League One season was ended via a points-per-game system, will now prepare for a third successive season in England’s third flight.

A number of changes can now be expected at the Stadium of Light this summer as current owner Stewart Donald has made it clear he still wants to sell the club.

It seems that several fans want to see a change in the dugout too, with many latching on to Warnock’s comments and calling for him to replace Phil Parkinson as manager. The ex-Sheffield United boss is of course currently out of work having left Cardiff City earlier in the 19/20 campaign.

It is understandable why some supporters would want Warnock, given he has a record eight promotions on his CV (Sky Sports). Here is what some had to say…

Haven’t they suffered enough.

Love Neil but I would be a bit wary. Thought he had three great seasons with us but was losing the plot towards the end. Bad signings poor decisions etc. Might do a godd lob for them might be a bit past his sell by date

I don't think he would ever be short of a job either.. and chasing a play off spot with 9 games to go, there is no one id rather have...long term I thing his age is the big sticking point though.

I didn't always agree with Warnock on a lot of signings, formations, team etc

( and I have won premier league's, champions league on football manager on the PC) so I know what I'm talking about haha

But he gelled us back together, for that he has a massive place in our clubs history.

I would love to see him have one more promotion then retire.

His style of play is dead now I think but good luck to him.

I'd definitely put those managerial successes and qualities on your CV.

Post lockdown and financial cutbacks will mean a huge raft of vacancies at clubs, even at Prem level.

You certainly can be mate

I did fail to mention a few slight points, on my way to these successes I was sacked many many times. and I save a game after every game so if I lose the next game I can restart it and try again.


But, never fear

We will keep that our little secret haha

Don't put yourself down mate, every manager has been sacked numerous times.

In my PR role this will come across as loads of clubs clammering for your signature.
