Cardiff City and Swansea City were still very much in the play-off reckoning when the Championship season was halted
The EFL have confirmed six individuals from four Championship clubs have tested positive for coronavirus in the latest round of testing.
The news comes just 10 days before the Championship is due to return, with Swansea at Middlesbrough on June 20 and Cardiff hosting Leeds on June 21.
Players and staff at clubs received their results on Wednesday after tests were carried out at training grounds up and down the country on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
Those who have tested positive are currently self-isolating for seven days and cannot attend their club’s training ground as a result.
In total 1192 players and staff from all 24 Championship clubs were tested, while in League One there were two confirmed cases from 137 tests, and in League Two, there were no positive cases from 135 tests.
“Following the latest round of COVID-19 testing, the EFL can confirm that 1192 players and Club staff from the 24 Championship Clubs were tested over the course of Sunday 7 June, Monday 8 June and Tuesday 9 June, with six individuals testing positive from four Clubs,” a statement from the EFL read.
“Those players or Club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate in line with the guidelines provided by the EFL and only those who have tested negative will be permitted to enter training ground facilities”
Before the statement added on League One and Two: “Following the latest round of COVID-19 testing, the EFL can confirm that 137 players and Club staff were tested from four League One Clubs over the course of Sunday 7 June, Monday 8 June and Tuesday 9 June, with two individuals testing positive from one Club.
“Following the latest round of COVID-19 testing, the EFL can confirm that 135 players and Club staff were tested from four League Two Clubs over the course of Sunday 7 June, Monday 8 June and Tuesday 9 June with zero individuals testing positive.”
