MOT View: EFL club boss update could be worrying news for Leeds when season restarts

Monday 8th June 2020

Leeds United fans won’t have forgotten about their side’s 3-3 draw against Cardiff City at Elland Road back in December.

After 52 minutes, the Whites were three goals ahead before Marcelo Bielsa’s men capitulated and conceded three goals in the space of half an hour against a Bluebirds side that finished the match with 10 men.

Leeds were well and truly rocked by that result in West Yorkshire.

Before Cardiff’s shock comeback at Elland Road, United were on a seven-match winning streak but after it, they won just two of eight Championship games.

One of the key reasons as to why Leeds let slip of that big lead was Lee Tomlin’s performance with the 31-year-old forward scoring one goal and assisting another in what was, admittedly, a man-of-the-match performance.

Why are we mentioning Tomlin? When Leeds’ Championship season resumes on June 20, they will more than likely play away against the Bluebirds at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Tomlin has been injured since February and wasn’t expected to play again this season but Neil Harris has recently revealed on Cardiff’s official website that the Bluebirds star could be fit to play once the campaign resumes later this month.

It means that Tomlin might be able to repeat that performance against Leeds in the Whites’ first match back after a three-month break due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He’s certainly a player who’ll need containing.

According to stats by WyScout, not only did Tomlin score and assist a goal, he also played in passes that set up two shots at goal, completed 100 per cent of crosses, completed 67 per cent of his dribbles and had three touches inside the penalty area when his season average is 2.23.

If Tomlin starts then Ben White, Liam Cooper and Kalvin Phillips will all have to be on their toes.

As much as we don’t want to see players injured, it would really benefit us if Tomlin didn’t play in this match once the season is back underway.
