Liverpool stars in brilliant 40th birthday singalong for Rangers boss Steven Gerrard in different languages, including Welsh

Tuesday 2nd June 2020

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp leads the Gerrard birthday celebrations, with his Premier League title chasing stars clapping as Happy Birthday is sung in Welsh

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard celebrated his 40th birthday on Saturday away from the game, the Rangers manager enjoying a break following the news that the 2019/20 Scottish Premiership campaign had been curtailed owing to the coronavirus outbreak.

But he will have been bowled over to hear and see his former employers showing their appreciation by singing Happy Birthday during a training session at their plush Melwood complex.

Jürgen Klopp, his players and staff traditionally gather for a pre-workout sing-a-long to celebrate each other's birthdays.

And that's exactly what they did for Kop icon, using a multitude of different languages to factor in the range of nationalities their talent-packed squad boasts.

And you can even hear the Welsh language being used by the Anfield stars, who are on the brink of securing the Premier League title.

The 138-second clip posted on the club's official Twitter account shows players and staff singing Happy Birthday in a variety of languages.

Manager Jurgen Klopp calls out the different languages and the players respond accordingly, every one of them clapping along.

From 44 seconds on in the video, they belt out a rendition of "Penblwydd hapus i ti" in honour of Gerrard after Klopp shouts out 'Wales.'

The Reds do of course have talented Welshman Neco Williams in their ranks and have a proud history with Welsh legends.

Ian Rush is still the record scorer at the club, with John Toshack, Craig Bellamy and Dean Saunders among the stars who have played for the club.

Liverpool are set to return to action when they take on Merseyside rivals Everton on June 20.
