So my 15 year old is back in school in two weeks and next year does her GCSEs. We've not had any confirmation from school yet on when she will need to go in, how many will be in the class but we are expecting something of a scaled back day. Dilemma is, I am over 50 just, have severe anaemia, a history of blood clots on my lungs and wife is a diabetic. Eldest daughter also has chronic fatigue so has an awful immunity system. For what it is worth wife and I are also obese, we are dieting but losing weight of significance will not happen overnight.
Daughter is furloughed until end of July and me and the wife are indefinitely working from home.
I am really anxious about youngest going to school and bringing Covid home, she is very fit and healthy generally and a black belt but the rest of us tick boxes of concern.
Does anyone have similar concerns and if so what have you done or will you be doing? I realise we cant keep her home for ever but right now seems to soon. We have been relatively low risk down here but in think that is on the turn given all the muppets that descended on Dorset over the weekend.

Sorry Mate you really have an awful dilemma given circumstances... personally I would wait until September to send her back to school thats plenty time to see how giving more freedom as effect on corvid rates... problem is shes got to go to school though for her future! and this virus will be around in some degree behond Sept I suspect so wait as nothing to gain in 4weeks because of all school already missed she cannot make it up speaking from experience.

Absolutely understand your concerns with your particular situation and a very difficult decision for you.
Just wondering what would have to happen for you to feel safe to send your child back to school? Can you foresee a time when you'd feel comfortable with your child returning?
The general belief seems to be that this particular virus will be around for maybe many years to come so do you think a point will ever come when it's absolutely safe for the kids to return to school?
Wishing you and your family all the best at what must be a worrying time.

Probably best to ring your doctor but I would of thought not given you and wife's condition. The school will clearly make sure she gets the work she needs to not fall behind.

For the sake of a 6/7 week term I’d keep her home and see how things are in 3 months when she starts final year.
You will be living in fear everyday else.

I would agree, I am strongly for sending kids to school, but this is the exception.
I feel the same about the teachers, they should definitely be planning in Wales and setting up ready, but teachers over 50 with health conditions should be kept safe maybe do lesson plans or something, take on young fit supply teachers if need be to fill in the gaps and then everyone should be happy.

I firmly believe schools should be open . but think common sense should come into it too. so im with everyone else here. keep here home. its interesting that most of the responses have come from people who have posted that they feel quite strongly that schools should be open .
