OFFICIAL " SKY BET CHAMPIONSHIP SET TO RETURN ON JUNE 20TH"

Sun May 31, 2020 8:08 pm

The following statement has been released by the EFL:

Sunday 31st May 2020

Following Saturday’s announcement by the Government to allow elite sporting events to return behind closed doors, the EFL has this weekend agreed to a provisional restart date of the weekend of 20 June 2020 for matches in the Sky Bet Championship.

The date is subject to the strict proviso that all safety requirements and Government guidance is met; and that Clubs receive clearance from their local authorities in order to stage matches at their home grounds.

After discussing various approaches, and, the importance of completing the season in a similar timeline to that of the Premier League to avoid any potential issues with promoted and relegated Clubs, the Sky Bet Championship season is set to conclude with the Championship Play-Off Final on or around 30 July 2020. Final details are still to be confirmed following further discussions with the League’s Broadcast partner, Sky Sports.

During the weekend’s discussions it was further agreed to consider changing Regulations to permit the use of five substitutes in the remaining fixtures and, also increasing the matchday squad from 18 to 20 players. Discussions will continue with Championship Clubs in this respect.

The fixture schedule, broadcast selections and details on iFollow/streaming services will follow in due course.

EFL Chair Rick Parry said: “With Sky Bet Championship Clubs set to return to full contact training later this week and following Saturday’s Government announcement, we are edging closer towards resuming the 2019/20 EFL season. We have therefore today consulted with the Board’s Championship Directors and agreed to fixtures restarting behind closed doors on 20 June.

“Whilst matches will unfortunately have to take place without supporters, we are working with our broadcast partners, EFL Championship Clubs and all relevant stakeholders to broadcast the remaining 108 games plus Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs either live on Sky Sports, iFollow or a Club’s equivalent streaming service.

“We must stress that at this stage the date is only provisional and will only be confirmed once we have met all the requirements, as the health, safety and well-being of all participants, staff and supporters remains our top priority.

“Clearly completing the season in a safe manner is going to require a significant effort by all concerned and, whilst not unprecedented, it will need Clubs to play a significant number of matches over a relatively short period of time."

Evening fellow 62r! Hope you are good? :old: :bluebird: Me I'm on the other side of the fence,I think it's too soon, especially in the uk,players and staff from a few clubs already testing positive, and surely under the new track and trace system, all those who have had contact with these people, have to isolate for the 14 day period, and not the 7 days I have heard quoted recently? ? That date is another 3 weeks away, could be a load more positive results by then (no that I would wish that!) Let's hope the numbers are in a steep decline by then.I'm quite happy to watch old matches on different media formats, not saying I wouldn't watch my beloved Bluebirds if it does go ahead and it's on tv or city tv,but can't lie,I love the atmosphere with the fans there at games, even when watching games from the 60's & 70's!!

Morning mate. All good here thanks and hop the same for you :old:
I take your points and I’m by no means an expert but those coming out as positive almost all have absolutely no symptoms and are otherwise fit and healthy. They are being tested so so many times that the threat of R is as minimal as possible from them imho and my thinking is that I’d be more likely to catch it going to Sainsburys 5 mins ago.
Plus, people are now starting to go back to work including schools and the public (footy fans anyway) need a pick me up so all Things considered I think it’s the right time. Only my opinion though and I appreciate there’s people who will think differently to me.

Good evening! I do get both sides of the coin, and am in no way suggesting what others should do,but for me,the time is too soon, and the possible ramifications of risking being in another country if the worst happened and got symptoms, a lot of schools stayed shut, regardless of being told they could re-open,with councils defying the government, also thousands of parents did think it was right for their children to attend those that were open, refusing to send them.as you say, each person has a different view on things, anyway mate, glad to see you are doing ok  things here the same, had great family day, with our mum today, the first face to face with her kids (us ) in nearly 14 weeks!! Was great to be able to catch up with people we hadn't seen in what feels like an age! Let's all hope that these hoardes at beaches and beauty spots don't encourage a second wave, before we emerge further from lockdown from this wave!! My wife and her two niece's along with mm myself are doing the Welsh coast this year instead of going to turkey, not what we planned, but in all honesty we are exited about discovering more of this beautiful country we call home  don't worry,we are hiring a 6 birth camper van, with all mod cons, and are talking a full gammit of clothing, from flip flops to wellies (only in wales)in one day ;) waiting for confirmation of vehicle, then we set off July . :old: :bluebird:

Is it definitely starting that weekend as report in IC Wales suggest it is “hoped” to start that weekend.

Some clarity needed.

As with the Premier League, it's depending on all safety protocols being met so 99% likely that it will start that weekend.
