Welsh football icon Michael Chopra has urged Gareth Bale to join the Newcastle United revolution.

Chopra, who established himself as an idol among Cardiff City fans after joining the Bluebirds from his home-town Toon club, warns Bale that Newcastle are the only Premier League team who would sign him.

Newcastle are close to being taken over by Saudi Arabians in a £300million deal and are ready to spend big to start challenging for honours.

Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is being linked as manager, with Bale and ex-Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho the stellar players the club want.

Bale has well documented problems with Real Madrid and has been tipped for big-money moves to America and China, while Manchester United and Spurs have also been previously interested.

His huge wages and the transfer fee Real Madrid are demanding have been a stumbling block for Premier League clubs, but Chopra believes Newcastle can overcome that.

MICHAEL CHOPRA:

”Bale and Coutinho would be great signings and those are the type of players Newcastle supporters love to watch,” Chopra told the Daily Star.

"You go back to the late 1990s with David Ginola, Faustino Asprilla, Alan Shearer and Peter Beardsley. Fans want those type of players to come back. That used to be what Newcastle were about - the entertainers.

"Money talks when you want to sign players and ultimately you’re going to have to pay them more to attract them to the north east. But if you’ve got the money it’s not a problem.

“I don’t think Coutinho or Bale would turn down the opportunity. Newcastle are a big club and they could be part of this next chapter.

“And, if Bale wants to come back to England, Newcastle might now be the only club willing to pay his wages."

That’s what the club should be aiming for, we have a bigger catchment area than Newcastle but unfortunately not a multi billionaire!

I'm sure they would love to ignite a dynasty. Financially secure.

What a challenge to secure a legacy...
