CCFC / WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY / IN FACT COSTING £MILLS

Sat May 30, 2020 11:03 am

Isaacs Vassell was injury prone and had, had serious injury issues at Birmingham City, then bang Cardiff buy him.

Vassell endured a difficult period at St Andrew's after he ruptured his ACL in his first season which kept him sidelined for over year. He scored just one goal in 23 appearances for Birmingham City.

Vassell signed a three-year contract with Championship club Cardiff City on 8 August 2019; the fee around £2,5mill.

Vassell made his debut two days later as a substitute during a 2–1 victory over Luton Town, scoring the winning goal in injury time.

After making three appearances, it was announced that Vassell was ruled out for up to two months due to a thigh injury suffered in an under-23's games.

Vassell was making another comeback and even now after months and months out wont be back playing for Cardiff even over the next 2-3months again.

Neil Harris:

"Greg Cunningham and striker Isaac Vassell wont be playing again this season, this season is over for them both."

Total waste of money unfortunately, the transfer team certainly didn't do their homework there

Surprised he didn't injure himself doing the Ayatollah in that picture.

Some players are just injury prone and he's one of them.

Was a massive risk buying him and unfortunately has proven an absolute waste of money and will continue to be so until the end of his contract.

Can't see anyone taking him off our hands with his injury record unless they're as stupid as we are.

I feel for Vassell; he clearly wants to play and it just hasn't worked out for him :(

On the flip-side, the club need to look at their pre-recruitment procedures, as this is not the first time they've employed a rolling crock (sorry Isaac) and the situation of buying such is somewhat a standing joke at City for some time now :(

Let's see what players are brought in under Harris because so far he hasn't brought in overpriced rubbish or players signed for the sake of it like Warnock..
Although i understand warnock taking a risk buying Vassel as he could have been a good player like Patto who was injured when we bought him.

He could be a good addition for us if he can get over his injury. We will soon see because he's had plenty of time to rest or work on it. I'd love to see him do well for us even had a back up..

I think some of what gets said about this guy is harsh on him and our club...
he made 14 apps for Birmingham 2nd half of last season having recovered from injury .. and passed a medical here... if you only sign players who have never been injured it would even rule out Ramsey and Bale..

Considering his injury history before he joined us it would have been prudent for us to have included appearance clauses linked to the transfer fee.

you could say that / would be great if that were the case for every player.. it works if your the only game in town. not so if a player already has a contract and there is interest from other clubs..

When we are shopping in Poundstretcher we are bound to caught out now and then.
We signed Paterson when he was injured.

Paterson, Rae, Bothroyd all spent years on the physios table before joining us, all three were a complete waste of money. I blame Tan

At the time I think he was worth the punt and if we hadn't gone for him somebody would have IMO.I'm hopeful he'll still come good.I seem to remember Frazer Cambell having a lot of setbacks before coming good for us and it seems to be the way with these genuinely fast sprinter types.

Luton were interested.. I remember their manager saying they couldn't compete with us on wages..
its easy to say pay as you play ,or wages should be bonus heavy but reality is more often than not anyone even half decent will have other suitors...

Two and a half million seemed a reasonable punt on Vassell when you consider West Brom paid us 8m for Zohore!
