Didn't remember the kit but can hear singing in the rain in my ears. Mad but great day that. Even the tiny village I was from Coychurch ran a coach. I still went on the supporters coach though, they were way to crazy for me.

Think a Cardiff fan was stabbed outside ground and if my mind serves me correctly when the guy was interviewed on bbc Wales he said the guy who did it said “That’s for what you did up at Chelsea”.
Weird how certain things stick in your mind from yesteryear but I can’t remember what I had for lunch yesterday.

I was on the Coychurch bus, Rob Morris (rip) organised it, they picked us up in Cardiff on the way, good bloke was Rob.

but things got worse as it was time to leave the pub to go to the game i noticed the old bill had gone and so had half of our mob, as the 20-30 walked down this street all we could see was lots & lots & lots of chelsea outside this pub with loads making their way towards us, i was only 17 at this time and i said to the lads most of them a lot older than me to spread out across the road as there is only one way we are going and thats through them and everyone agreed that if anybody shits out they will get it at the next home game, just as we were inches from each other a few old bill turned up from nowhere and pushed the chelsea back leaving just a narrow cap for us to pass through i can still see the evil on there faces as they pushed hard to get at us hell knows what would have happend if the police had not turned up (yeah i think i do ) then on to the ground which in its self was another mad story,i could wright a book on just this one day alone.

the promotion year plus the first year back up { including this Chelsea game } were stand out seasons for mental away days..it felt sometimes like every nutcase in South Wales was going , sort of drifted off a bit after that as we became permanent bottom 6 residents and crowds dropped off..

He was a good bloke, a completely different character away from the football. Never the same after the night down the Piper when 3 Jack coaches called in after the Palace Swansea match at Ninian. A dozen or so Jacks ( it should of been 50 ) and Rob were sent down. We'd get the odd coach and a bit of uncomfortable banter from time to time but they came fully intent on wiping the building and 10 or so Cardiff fans in it out that night. Fortunately for me I stayed home doing some homework. I don't think he ever went to City match again.

indeed.. you could talk to 30 blokes off 30 different coaches all with equally mad but totally unique tales depending on where they stopped on way up and back ,who they bumped into and where they parked... bonkers..

Back in them days lads were so drunk that 30 people from the same coach could give you 30 different tales

I worked in south London for three years in the early 80s and played in a football team that was full of Chelsea fans and a couple of Spurs. The Chelsea ones all talked about that match at Ninian and had some good tales - including a van load deciding to take a trip down Bute St which they came to regret

They probably attacked every teams fans, which back in the 70s bbc would show on match of the day the games that stick out were against ( forest) ( palace) and that famous kung fu kick from one of the fighting fans, and yes cardiff did not budge just took it to the chelsea it was crazy i seen city fans with darts stuck in there heads and one with a dart through his nose and darts being sent back and forth all match, real mad days

Chelsea away fans were a different story if I remember. I think most clubs’ away support was more ‘up for it’ in them days.
