This quarantine nonsense?

Sun May 24, 2020 6:02 pm

When 9 to 15 thousand people a day have been entering the UK airports without so much of a word? This last minute brain storm ia about keeping money in the UK economy. Whilst I am pleased for the UK hospitality industry please don't take away my right to choose

The vast majority of people arriving at airports are repatriation flights or people using normal airlines to return to uk and rest made up of people in transit to other countries so find few people arriving here that shouldn't be here... but as for quarantine bit late now and hes effectively killed off travelling while its implemented and as dealt big blow to countries like Greece Spain ect who rely heavily on tourists to sustain them economically.

I have a good friend whose turkish, and has a business in bodrum,on the sea front, he has said this will put him debt he's not sure he will be able to pay back, lots of countries will suffer hugely with this nonsense in place, and I believe it is being done so we staycate instead, thus giving the economy a boost in the process?? And even if all the people are being repatriated, there were still no barriers to them entering the country, such as being asked to self isolate, especially if returning from a badly hit country such as USA ,Italy spain and France for a start, who knows how many infected,or carriers have returned to date? And what was done to check? Oh,some hand gel ,IF you want! ! Horse and barn door springs to mind! :old: :bluebird:

That's because the Government couldn't get their act together in time at the start. Like most things virus really.
Why not visit Durham this year?

The horse as clearly bolted on several fronts and yes believe it is to keep people home and boost uk tourism, but social distancing is going to cause chaos and wont work as businesses need set amount of custom and having only 20% or less capacity is not going to change things from that prospective ..... tenby classic example
Popular place limited space lift lockdown and
Chaos and arguments about spacing....

You are correct, I have cousins who live in the Tenby area, and they are dreading the inevitable, I cannot remember the name of the pub that's but into that wall as arch? But if the have social distancing, then there's room for about three or four punters max,as it's tiny anyway, hardly going to boost there income is it? So it won't be such a boost to the economy,if businesses cannot function feasibly, under the guidance given.even the big boys like tesco and Asda are struggling because footfall is so reduced /resticted. :old: :bluebird:

Funny enough spoke yesterday to owner of several pubs in haverfordwest and he isn't opening up when pubs allowed as the restrictions make it unviable! but its not only pubs but really any business that relies on footfall of rotating customers..... social distancing is the death of many businesses big and small if continues much beyond Sept

Only UK and Spain demand 2 metres. W H O suggest 1 metre. If that were allowed its estimated that the hospality industry could operate at 80% of the space available. That alone won't be enough for some who suffer the worst due to a fall in demand. I'm guessing lots on here will fancy a trip to the pub if its sensible ( I know I will) but there will be lots of people scared go. The pubs were having a torrid time before covid and many won't see it through to 2021

Also lots pubs are to small to have 2mtr distancing take the Cornwall be lucky to get 20 people altogether at one time so their main income is match days that will go out window along with watching footy there.... besides ehos going to stand outside waiting to get in be same for places like Witherspoon not enough hours in day to have enough customers to keep it viable once full have to wait 45mins+ to get in people will simply wont go! Problem worse in Wales as around 4wks behind England in opening up places

The UK government is launching what it sees as a pivotal part of this country slowly emerging from the current lockdown: its test and trace programme.

It’s a change that’s going to require people in England to absorb and act on new rules around self-isolation.

Matt Hancock said that sticking by those rules will be voluntary for now, but added it could become mandatory.

The Health Secretary appealed to people’s “civic duty” and said that he trusted the public “to do the right thing”.

But the actions of Dominic Cummings – and the debate about whether he did the right thing – could hang over this command.

There have been numerous warnings, including from some Tory MPs, that trust is something of a two-way street. However, it may only be clear once this new way of combating the virus actually starts to bed in, whether public trust has been really eroded and to what extent.

Without sounding daft, of course trust works both ways! But this "civic duty" and "trusting the public to do the right thing, when people in office continue to take the p@ss of this "two way street " they talk about! And "in this together " b@locks grinds my gears also,as we clearly aren't. :old: :bluebird:

What are the UK's new travel quarantine rules?

A two-week quarantine period for UK arrivals comes in to effect on 8 June, with the home secretary expected to lay out regulations and update parliament tomorrow.

Most passengers will have to self-isolate for 14 days, and in England could be fined up to £1,000 if they fail to do so.

More than 200 travel companies have written to the government asking for the plan to be scrapped and replaced with ‘’airbridges’’, whereby countries with low coronavirus levels could agree to exempt one another's residents from quarantine.

Some MPs have also voiced concerns about the measures, which the government says are being brought in to prevent a second wave of cases.
