Leeds United: Fans pleased with Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman’s promotion comments - Leeds United

Many Leeds United fans have reacted to an article sharing comments made by Cardiff City’s Mehmet Dalman on Championship promotion plans.

Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites sit top of the table and are in pole position for a return to the Premier League through the automatic promotion route. However, with football at a standstill in the UK due to the coronavirus pandemic, there have been some question marks regarding Leeds’ promotion prospects.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, Dalman has said that promotion is key after seeing Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani invest enormous amounts of money into the Yorkshire club. He said: “The Championship has always been an investment for owners trying to chase the holy grail of promotion, knowing if they fail they would be suffering financially.

“The idea that we will not finish the league is absurd as that would leave clubs like Leeds and West Brom in a difficult position because they have invested a lot to get promoted. Not finishing the season, even if it’s in September or October, and you scrap next season to do so, would be a travesty.”

Social media was full of praise for the Cardiff Chairman and many were Leeds United fans.

Cardiff City's chairman says it would be absurd to scrap Championship promotion in light of the money Andrea Radrizzani has invested at Leeds United. #lufc https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leed ... y-18266676

A decision has already been made on the outcome of the League Two season, with League One still in the balance. However, one Championship club chief executive believes not finishing the championship season would be the worst possible outcome.

In a revealing interview with The Sunday Times, Cardiff City Chief Executive, Mehmet Dalman discussed the financial impact ending the season would have on most Championship sides.

“The Championship has always been an investment for owners trying to chase the holy grail of promotion, knowing if they fail they would be suffering financially,” Dalman told the Sunday Times. “I can name you clubs like Derby who have spent a fortune and now are running into difficulties. “The idea we will not finish the league is absurd as that would leave clubs like Leeds and West Brom in a difficult position because they have invested a lot to get the promotion spot. Not finishing the season — even if it’s in September or October and even if you scrap next season to do so — would be a travesty.”
