Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff City, Huddersfield Town and Hull City are all strongly against the restart of the Sky Bet Championship season.

Plans are being put in place for the Championship season to resume in the coming month, with a view of concluding by the end of summer.

The BBC report how clubs have been told to return to training towards the end of May, with a view of resuming playing around June 13th.

That’s music to the ears of Leeds United and West Brom, who are pushing for promotion back to the Premier League, but their rivals in the Championship are against a restart.

A report from The Telegraph notes how there’s opposition from Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff, Huddersfield and Hull to restarting the season at all.

In terms of what’s left to play for with that quartet, Wednesday are drifting towards a mid-table finish and their remaining nine games hold little meaning.

However, Cardiff still have an outside shot of the play-offs, whilst Huddersfield and Hull are battling relegation.

Hull, in particular, looked to be in serious trouble, with Grant McCann’s side falling from play-off contention to the bottom four since the turn of the year.

The Verdict

Getting 24 teams agreeing on the season’s resume was never going to be straightforward and you can see why Wednesday don’t want to take any risks resuming.

Cardiff’s situation is different given their geographical position, yet Swansea City have asked permission of the Welsh Government, but Huddersfield and Hull appear to be looking to duck an uncertain relegation battle.

They are in the thick of the fight at the bottom of the table and resuming puts their Championship status at risk.

Or maybe if the season is voided, we go again next season , with parachute payments commencing for another 2 years?

We'd have to pay back this season's. That's not going to happen.

More likely your first point. If NML is vocal enough to go on skysports and voice his concerns then he most definitely has the support of his teammates.

Think a repayment would only be 20% equivalent to the 9 games left

This season HAS to be finished.

If it means waiting a few more months then so be it; if I’m summer it can be equivalent to a pre-season for what’s the benefit of shoehorning in the remaining games at break neck speed and then have a long wait for the new season. The two can sort of merge.

However this ignores the reality of every club wanting to start next season with their new squad and contracts sorted.

Don't we only get the 2 years payment as we only stayed up for the one season?

Re: ' Cardiff City are against it '

Yes, but if the season is void?

Re: ' Cardiff City are against it '

If the whole season is made void, do Bury have the right to take up their place in League 1? Just wondering

Can't have our cake and eat it.

Either it's void and we pay all money back then get another 2.

Or it's completed and we get one more.

I'm in the 'must be completed' camp

Why cant they carry this seasons points into next season. So next would be a season of 57 games. Same goes for lower leagues. Champions league places etc , just the table as it was when everything stopped.

All it takes is for one player to test positive during the behind closed doors games - and you will have players complaining their employers have a duty of care etc.

Restart the season in August or September and play it to a conclusion - behind closed doors.

By then the antibody testing kits should be available. (hopefully).

Have a 1 month break - during which player contracts/transfers can be sorted and then start following season.

That only works for Premiership and Championship. League 1 and 2 cannot survive without gate money and God only knows when that will start coming in again.

Yes. My thoughts too. As many games a week as they can squeeze in, surely one every three days is doable for these sportsmen!

Players in quarantine for the month too. Much like they'd be on international duty. Team hotels.

If he's a popular lad in the squad. Then his mates probably have his back.

I know if my mate was high risk and his Mrs was pregnant. I'd support him in his concerns.

Not saying I wouldn't play, but that if it came to a vote I'd probably side with him the thoughts of someone I didn't know.

Disclaimer. *also depends how silly your view is. NML is rightly concerned. I don't know what DR said.

Cant they agree to finish it whenever is safe to do so. Have a 3 week break then start the new one.

I realise that would leave us out of kilter but over a couple of years it could be evened out. I don't like cricket so I'd rather watch summer football!

Agree. It HAS to be finished. End of. Clubs need to come together to agree a way to do this
