“ On the 35th Anniversary / Never Forgotten “

Mon May 11, 2020 8:22 am

Today on the 11th May 1985, 56 people lost their lives and approximately 265 were injured when a horrific fire broke out in the stands of Bradford City during a celebration football match.

It’s the 35th anniverary of this tragedy, please find the time in your busy lives to remember them. I KNOW I WILL.

I personally knew four Bradford City fans who lost their lives and to this day I know how it still hurts in the community of Bradford .

You should not go to watch a football match and sadly never return home to your loved ones.

RIP fellow football fans

Thanks for highlighting this and reminding people of this Annis.
Any tragedy and loss of life in such circumstances is horrific, but it always amazes and surprises me that this tragedy is not given the same level of coverage as others. It was an accident waiting to happen.

There's a good BT Sport film on the tragedy. Gabby Logan, whose dad Terry Yorath was assistant manager Bradford City, was at the game and narrates the film.

Bloody hell that was 35 years ago, I still remember it very well

An horrific incident with 56 people sadly losing their lives. Anybody who followed the City away from home 30-35 years ago knew something like this could have happened anytime and at many different lower league grounds

Although many would be considered “proper old fashioned grounds” The reality unfortunately was that many of them were ramshackled, falling down death traps.
