The figures about the deaths in Spain with regard to the age group and underlying health problems - 86% of those died were over 70 and 95% of them had at least one underlying health condition.
I would expect UK and every other country to be similar figures.

very similar figures to whats been put on here from our NHS, Italy and France.
its killing the most vulnerable. in truth those most likely to die this year anyway.

I'm sure the figures here will be very similar.
I think I saw somewhere that in the UK there have been less than 400 deaths of people under the age of 40.

9 out of ten over 70 and 9 out of 10 with at least 1 underlying health condition is whats been said.
Italy said deaths were 96% underlying...average age 79.
just hope you and yours are not in your 40s /50s and suffer a stroke or heart attack that youd normally survive with quick medical assistance..

Doesn't that tell you everything you need to know about this virus.

For some yes,but others see things differently, we have a large poulation who are over 70,it's about 15% of our population, and a very large proportion of deaths fall into this age bracket, especially if they are poorly already.that's my opinion, although it doesn't mean every poster sees things as we do mate.its what makes the forum I guess.

yes but its not even killing the over 70s randomly.. its mostly those that are ill and weak...there is a huge overlap here of thse you would expect to be in the 400,000 over 70s that will die in the UK this year anyway...
there seems to have been very little context given regarding how many people die each year and who they are..

Stats from Andrew Marr today
10 Million under 15’s in England and Wales - 2 have died with covid 19 on those death certificate and they may have had something else wrong with them.
Under 25’s 17 Million 26 deaths recorded many will have had other conditions, that’s the same as a couple of days of deaths from general accidents and sudden death.
Over 90’s so far over 1% of them have died from covid 19 so 10,000 times the risk.
The expert says it’s really an over 75’s killer and almost all with underlying health issues.

We could have sent an army of youngsters under 30 to work all the way through and they would have built up some heard immunity and kept the economy ticking over.
They should definitely be straight back to work now they have nothing to fear and more chance of dying in an accident than of covid 19, obviously, they would need to keep away from the elderly.

66.65 Million with 32,000 deaths so far account for 0.0004% of the population 80% of those over 75 with serious health conditions.
We need to bubble wrap and protect the over 75's with health conditions.

I agree the elderly really need looking after in all countries .

So in a 30,000 Cardiff City home crowd, 12 would have died and 10 of them would have been over 75 and had serious health conditions.

The other major factor seems to be weight. Haven't got any figures but the anecdotal evidence from medical staff in my family says overweight people are dying disproportionately because apparently the fat seriously hinders the immune system.
I'm on a diet.

Absolutely right

However, the Government should never have released elderly patients into care homes without testing for the virus in order to increase capacity in hospitals.
No-one needed a crystal ball to work that out as we had all seen what had happened in Italy & Spain.

The figure I heard was obesity increases the chances of death by 37%!
The other day I heard an item on the radio where they stated your chances of dying from COVID-19 increased if you were overweight (tick), male (tick), type 2 diabetic (tick), over 50 years of age (tick), had ever suffered a pulmonary embolism (tick), kidney problems (tick) or suffer with Sleep apnoea (tick).
On the bright side I do get priority food home delivery slots, for now

Analysis: UK excess deaths still far above normal
Robert Cuffe
BBC head of statistics
The number of people who have died because of Covid-19 is much higher than the figure we hear announced every day.
By 1 May, the number of deaths announced by the UK government was just over 28,000.
Looking back at death registrations filed by that date, the figure is higher: just over 36,000 death certificates mentioned Covid-19.
The measure preferred by statisticians - all deaths above what would be expected - was even higher: more than 50,000.
This is what’s called in the jargon “all-cause excess mortality”.
It captures the deaths missed by lab testing, the misdiagnosed deaths, and the deaths caused by the strain the virus puts on our society: people not seeking or getting care for other conditions, or people suffering under the lockdown.
Why is this measure better?
It works because the total number of deaths registered in a week normally follows a predictable pattern.
That number has shot up since the middle of March, running far higher than the previous weeks or what would be expected at this time of year.
These 50,745 "extra deaths" are largely attributed to the pandemic.
The total seen so far in this first phase of the epidemic is roughly comparable to the winter of 2017/18, when England and Wales saw approximately 50,000 more deaths than they would ordinarily see during the summer months.
The good news is that the weekly excess deaths figure is falling, but the bad news is that it is still running far above normal.
