Online debate breaks out between Nottingham Forest’s Joe Lolley and Cardiff City’s Lee Tomlin

A debate has broken out on Twitter between Nottingham Forest winger Joe Lolley and Cardiff City playmaker Lee Tomlin over who the top five players of all time are.

The EFL season has now been delayed for nearly two months and everyone involved with the game is having to find new ways to get their footballing fill.

To that end, Sky Sports pundits have been debating who the top five greatest players of all time, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Pele, and Diego Maradona making most lists, and have asked fans on Twitter to do the same.

Lolley, who is active on social media, has got involved and revealed his top five players of all time.

It appears his inclusion of Spain and Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta rather than France and Real Madrid’s Zinedine Zidane hasn’t gone down well with Tomlin, who took to Twitter to reveal his outrage.

Lolley backed up his claim by suggesting Iniesta was a star when he was growing up but it doesn’t seem as if he has convinced the Cardiff man.

The Verdict

Lolley is active on social media, so it’s no surprise to see him getting involved with this sort of thing but he certainly seems to have touched a nerve with Tomlin by picking Iniesta over Zidane.

Both players have been impressive in the Championship this term, with Lolley grabbing eight goals and seven assists for fifth-place Forest.

Tomlins’ seven goals and seven assists have been key to helping the Bluebirds move to within two points of the top six.

Should the season resume, they may have a chance to face each other in the play-offs.
