Lee Tomlin issues social update that plenty of Cardiff City fans are likely to agree with during EFL break

By Jacob Potter

Wednesday 06/05/2020

It’s a frustrating time to be a football supporter, with recent off-the-field events calling an abrupt halt to fixtures across the globe.

No scheduled return date has been put in place as of yet, as the relevant authorities continue to monitor developments across the UK before coming to a decision on when the sporting calendar will get back underway.

Cardiff City will be hoping they can finish this year’s campaign strongly when football does return, with Neil Harris’ side in with a chance of a top-six finish this term.

The Bluebirds are currently sat ninth in the Championship table, and are just two points adrift of the play-off places, with nine matches remaining in this year’s campaign.

One player that has played a key role for Cardiff in their bid for a top-six finish is Lee Tomlin, who has chipped in with seven goals and seven assists in his 25 appearances in all competitions.

Tomlin has been with Cardiff since 2017, after signing from Bristol City. He has previously been on the books with the likes of AFC Bournemouth and Middlesbrough.

The attacking midfielder recently took to Instagram to reveal that he was missing football, which is a statement that plenty of Bluebirds supporters are likely to agree with.

Lee Tomlin:

"Really missing my football, but better to be safe than anyone put themselves at risk with this deadly virus."

"While the lockdown is on, stay home & stay safe."

The Verdict:

I think we can all agree with him here!

Tomlin has really impressed me with Cardiff City this season, and he’s going to be a key player for the Bluebirds in the final nine games of this term, as they battle to fight their way into the play-off positions.

The attacking-midfielder will be desperate to win promotion this season, as he’ll be keen for one more shot in the Premier League before his best days are beyond him.

Football should only return when it is deemed safe enough to do so though.

Online debate breaks out between Nottingham Forest’s Joe Lolley and Cardiff City’s Lee Tomlin

By Ned Holmes

A debate has broken out on Twitter between Nottingham Forest winger Joe Lolley and Cardiff City playmaker Lee Tomlin over who the top five players of all time are.

The EFL season has now been delayed for nearly two months and everyone involved with the game is having to find new ways to get their footballing fill.

To that end, Sky Sports pundits have been debating who the top five greatest players of all time, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Pele, and Diego Maradona making most lists, and have asked fans on Twitter to do the same.

Lolley, who is active on social media, has got involved and revealed his top five players of all time.

It appears his inclusion of Spain and Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta rather than France and Real Madrid’s Zinedine Zidane hasn’t gone down well with Tomlin, who took to Twitter to reveal his outrage.

Lolley backed up his claim by suggesting Iniesta was a star when he was growing up but it doesn’t seem as if he has convinced the Cardiff man.

Has Lewis Grabban done these 12 things at Nottingham Forest? Have a go now!

The Verdict

Lolley is active on social media, so it’s no surprise to see him getting involved with this sort of thing but he certainly seems to have touched a nerve with Tomlin by picking Iniesta over Zidane.

Both players have been impressive in the Championship this term, with Lolley grabbing eight goals and seven assists for fifth-place Forest.

Tomlins’ seven goals and seven assists have been key to helping the Bluebirds move to within two points of the top six.

Should the season resume, they may have a chance to face each other in the play-offs.

LT has been posting videos of him on treadmill so hopefully he’ll keep in trim. His mind seems in a good place so I’m thinking he’ll be fine. Agree with your concerns re CP though

Sorry Lee, Out of those two on footballing talent (not just goalscorers) I would agree that Iniesta would trump Zidane for me But neither of those two would make my top 5 all time (post 1960's as I personally never seen them play so I could not make an accurate Judgement).

Far too often Goalscorers get all the credit but we all know that it takes all 11 on the field to make a great Team and a great individual footballer.

Here's what online sportsbible respondants thought (and one of mine does not even make their top 50) ? http://www.sportbible.com/football/news ... d-20200314

There are so many Brilliant individual players but here is my Top 5 in order and why:

1) Christiano Ronaldo

no doubt about it, number 1 for me. The complete all round footballer on the floor, in the air, Finding the right positions, Helping out all over the field and now longevity, For me no question.

2) Pele

For those old enough to remember Him play in world cup Games, wow, His skills just were sublime and made it look so easy, so comfortable on the ball in typical Brazilian style, Trickery and a lovely Fella to boot.

3) Diego Maradona

Such a pity that he F--ked himself up in his personal life as he could have been awesome for much longer than he was - What a talent, Strong and fast for a small fella, Trickery beyond belief, dropping that shoulder and feigning a run only to tie the opposition player in knots and leave him behind stone cold.

4) Johan Cruyff

That Dutch side of the 70's had it all but the cement was Cruyff, Not just for his trickery but held the ball up well and seem to stroke it with ease and caress the ball - Dutch Master.

5) Bastian Shwienstiger

Midfield master, Control and distribution was magnificent, The ultimate midfield controller.

Messi would be my number 6 and best Goalkeeper for me Peter Schmeichel (And I dislike Manure intensely).

But There have been and are so so many great players.

Our own Gareth Bale would be in my top 10 - Come Home Gareth, F--ck the Money and be a bluebird my son !!! :bluescarf:

Considering he was in great form and was out injured for the season, it’s incredible to think he could still be a pivotal figure for us this season....
