Chancing my arm ?

Fri May 01, 2020 11:35 am

During the week Iv'e developed a bleed inside my eye.So if I close my good eye even a city shirt looks crimson.

So my dilemma is they want me to go to the gwent for treatment and given I'm a 62yr old diabetic of 35yrs its fair to say I'm slightly bricking it.

City have always looked better and been more successful in Red anyway so dont worry

The hospitals are probably the cleanest they have ever been at the moment I'm sure you will have no issues as you will be nowhere near Covid wards.

Understand your dilemma but you should go and get it sorted, as I'm sure the Royal Gwent will have protocols in place once they know your personal situation and (maybe more importantly) you are aware of the situation and can take pre-emptive steps to ensure your own safety before, during and after attendance :thumbright:

I have to go to the local health center around every 3/4 weeks, for blood tests, as the surgery is closed, and i have to say that I am quite happy to go there as everthing is spot on, so I am absolutely sure that the hospital would be exactly the same. So I would not worry about going to the hospital, and I am a fair bit older than you :laughing6:

My wife is a nurse & she says you shouldn't even be thinking about not going as it could do permanent damage if left for too long.

In other words get your arse to the hospital NOW.

My wife had something similar around 6 months ago. We were concerned because she had previously been in a coma 3 years earlier (and any bleed in the head is worrying)

Anyway, she got it checked and it turned out to be a "Subconjunctivatal Hemorrhage" which pretty much sorted itself out after a few days.

I definitely repeat go to hospital if nothing else to give you peace of mind that its nothing more serious. We were glad we went.

Have you contacted your GP?
They will advise you, contact the hospital for you, to reduce waiting time.

I understand your nervousness, especially now, but to be honest the Royal Gwent isn't very safe in normal times. My understanding is that currently the hospital is fairly quiet with covid -19 cases in comparison to previous times.

You should not delay but contact GP/hospital as a matter of urgency.

Update:thanks for the comments all. After speaking to a clinician at the Gwent given my other problem(diabetic) I will not be going as she said the risk is still high and after looking at the photos said as long as the bleed doesn't get worse I should be ok.She also said nothing strenuous or even lifting shopping bags which is something I intend to strictly adhere to so the mrs is happy. My daughter in law begged me not to go as her sister who's a GP said the place is rife with it.
