What a bunch of absolute wankers.

What about their parents? They obviously don't care either that their children are out and about.

And why aren't the police patrolling these areas where they know these idiots are likely to congregate?

Just want to point out that its Aneurin Bevan Health Board area that has the highest number of deaths in Wales, not Newport. This Board covers an area including Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent and Chepstow, some 600,000 people, latest figures for yesterday showed there were 45 new cases in the area of which 17 were in Caerphilly, with 9 in Newport .This Health Board includes some of the most deprived areas in the UK and all experts are acknowledging that deprived areas are suffering the highest mortality rates from this awful disease. That said idiots like these need to be tagged and placed on curfew allowing them out once a day for exercise.

Lockdown begins to fray as Britain realises it can't live like this

This was the weekend the government always anticipated and feared: the weekend that public observance of the lockdown was put to its severest test yet.

It wasn’t just individual acts of rebellion, though there were plenty of those. Gloucestershire police had to turn back daytrippers from five different counties, including some who’d travelled more than 100 miles, while in Wiltshire police stopped an already disqualified driver doing 110mph on the M5 with five children on board.

A party of 10 in two cars travelled more than 200 miles for a walk in Snowdonia, before being turned back by police.

Gwent Police released a list of the best excuses they had received for flouting, including the foolhardy response to an officer of: "I'm taking my mate into Newport to buy drugs".

No, it was more subtle and widespread than that: the feeling that wherever you looked, particularly in cities, people were thronging into public spaces without bothering too much about social distancing.

It is almost five weeks since strict rules were announced to limit the spread of coronavirus which will continue into May.

Police say the message is now so clear that individuals who are outside for reasons other than those permitted in the guidelines would face "greater enforcement activity", including a fixed penalty notice of £60.

Among the excuses given to Gwent Police officers were:

"My son is a rubbish cook so I take him food every day"

"I've just been to feed the fish"

"I've been to buy nail clippers for the dog"

"I've bought a new catapult and wanted to try it out"

"I don't watch the news - what's going on?"

"I'm taking my mate into Newport to buy drugs"

"I am taking my quad bike for a walk and I promise I am not going ride it around a field"

"I thought I heard someone may be in trouble, so I came to have a look but I don't know their name or remember the person who told me it".

Gwent Deputy Chief Constable Amanda Blakeman said: "We understand this is a difficult time for all people.

"The vast majority of our communities are adhering to the guidance and we are grateful for the real difference they are making.

"A small minority are continuing to go against these guidelines."

£60 fine needs to be increased, says first minister

Urban areas rather than rural parts of Wales saw a rise in the number of people who "may not be conforming" with lockdown rules over the weekend, the first minister has been told.

Mark Drakeford said he had his usual Monday morning update from Wales' four chief constables.

He added he thinks the £60 fine for breaking lockdown rules needs to be increased.

"The message is clear...we are still in lockdown - that applies to me and to you," he said.
