If you can only go out for food medicine or exercise. What is the point of opening this store

I went passed my local one today and it was rammed. Must have been at least 70 people in the queue to get in.
The Lockdown is now over as these stores plus the fast food chains make it pointless

It makes sense and so long as the social distancing rules are enforced the benefits for people otherwise stuck at home will outweigh the negatives :thumbright:

wilko has been open as has the range..so don't see much difference....and yes DIY helps with mental health and exercise.. in theory if your busy at home your then not going out.....
but like so much lately everything is a target.... too many on tubes..so people figure this out and drive = look at all the traffic... you cant write it..

Nothing wrong with B&Q opening but really it should be click and collect only which is safe to do as you do not have to leave the car.

As should McDonalds be drive through only with card payments only

There are too many shops open to just queue up and browse. People are taking advantage now, the last three days has seen a huge jump in people outside

thing is mate when you leave home you really have no idea how busy the park, roads, tubes, supermarkets etc are going to be until you get there. everytime ive gone shopping ive got it right, no queue or 2/3 at worse then yesterday I turn up and there are about 50 in front of me..

Yeah it does depend on time of the day but as I've said before on here nearly everybody has complied with the lockdown up until this week when it's quite obvious there has been a huge jump in people out shopping.
On one street alone here there is poundstrecher, home bargains, superdrug, Boots, multiple newsagents and chip shops open.
It's a joke

People are starting to take more of a chance now because nobody really enforced the rules which are massively open to interpretation. It will be even worse if they allow you to see family members.

The government need to get a grip on this now or we will head into a second wave and be in lockdown until christmas

I think a lot of people on here are getting confused between social distancing (which should continue) and lockdown.

agree...we are allowed out providing we keep social distancing..

The lack of consistency is the issue. Is there lockdown or not? Supposedly we can only leave our own house once a day for an hour if exercise and essential shopping for food or the chemist. Over 70s in severe lockdown and can't even see their children or grand children. Yet others can elect to head to B and Q for some plants or shelves. Whilst the death count shows no sign of abating and front line nhs are at capacity. It makes no sense whatsoever.

the over 70s thing is for their own benefit though...NHS England released figures today that say 9 out of 10 deaths are of people aged 60 or more... and also 9 out of 10 had least 1 pre existing medical condition.. many { infact the average } is between 2 and 3 pre existing medical conditions.. and its the elderly that are more likely to have these other conditions...btw..the NHS { with the exceptions of 2 or 3 hospitals } has been nowhere near capacity in this country at any point during this..it was much closer to crashing in January when at 94%

I tend to agree B&Q and others should only be open for essentials ie to fix items in house broken that are needed for say heatingor leaks etc, not for plants, paint etc.

I havent been in a shop for 6 weeks, not even a supermarket's probably overly cautious at 35 but why risk it.

very frustrating.

Don't forget hospitalisation is also only 1 in 20 cases of people who actually show symptoms. And when you take in to account 4 out 5 won't show any!!

Why let the stats spoil a good bout of hysteria?!

I agree there are people home on lockdown, it makes sense to open DIY shops to allow them to get the jobs done while there are off work, it’s also good fir the economy, I also agree they need to be very careful with the social distancing rules and consider options like click and collect to reduce the risks of infection,

Because really you can do virtually everything except if of course not open .

People have just gone out for the days and just got on with it, Country has no leadership and does not know where it is going .

Next week way more places opening in UK and by May roads will be very busy again.

To be honest day 43 here and I wish we could of had a store open like that as there was so much we could of done at my house .

Spain decided not to. Nobody knows who's correct.

With strict social distancing how is it any different to visiting a supermarket? If anything less contact with people.

And if like someone said, it helps people stay sane, stay at home and keeps a small part of the economy moving, who's to say it's a bad thing?

Too add, in my opinion it's exactly one of the the tiny steps I would expect in being first in lifting the lockdown. I think too many people are expecting everything to return to normal overnight...

Because Food is way more essential and if your going to have a lockdown, then it should be a proper lockdown in my opinion, not a sunny day out, walk in the park or off to buy paintbrushes, don't get me wrong, I wish I could of gone to a B&Q

Am I glad I have had this strict lockdown yes and I am glad its been respected totally.

We will only see who is Wrong or right?

I stand by Uk was weak on the lockdown and sadly will become the worst in the world behind the USA, really really hope I am wrong as its my home country, with so many loved ones.

At the moment Spain today has recorded its lowest death rates since week 1, Mallorca is / Balearic islands are looking good, 2 hospitals totally free of it, one with only 30% of it being used for the virus.

Today My daughters will be going out with me for the first time in 43 days, for one hr but no further than 1km from our house, id on us all, hand sanitiser has to be taken with us and Adults not allowed to be together, so we will take one each but meet by the rocks and say hello  bit daft really as we all live in the same house.

Food is essential, essential.
What is the difference between BandQ and shopping for clothes or Sportsdirect.

Huge majority are wholly abiding by lockdown and the principles of lockdown, but many aren't.

The surprise for me is that the "authorities" seem to turn a blind eye.

Parks closed but BandQ open says it all.

This isn't going away anytime soon and if its going to be contained in the remotest there will need to be a better way.

Is it not being contained?

Plenty of space in hospitals.
Falling cases and deaths.
Hopefully past the peak.
More testing daily.
Infection rate below 1.

The r rate was 3 when they closed schools, it’s under 1 now. Hope they open schools again in June for the kids sake.

Re: B&Q

I believe a click and collect service run properly would be ok .I state run PROPERLY. B&Q click and collect is a farce .To me click and collect is like I have experienced at Tesco where you pull up and somebody puts your groceries in your car and you do not go into the store . B&Q would be social distancing outside but once inside people all looking at different things in different directions.and common sense tell you that people would end up in same isle coming from different directions and being a lot nearer than you should be.

I agree. I don't understand why parks closed. Shoehorns us into smaller open areas than necessary. Unless councils up against local manpower issues or specific parks causing issues, default should be parks open.

Re: B&Q

Tue Apr 28, 2020 10:51 am

I think it was ridiculous to close most of the parks but what I did agree with, was stopping people driving to the parks for whatever reason. I know the lockdown is difficult and not 100% but, most police forces are recording a rise in domestic incidents,so there has got to be a balance, otherwise the incidents may go up even further.
