“ Landing at the airport “

Fri Apr 24, 2020 8:01 pm

A friend of mine, a Spanish Resident just arrived from Madrid in to Mallorca/ Palma airport.

Scott Ewen:
Having travelled back from Saudi Arabia, then Madrid then to Palma, I can tell you Palma had the strictest controls of all airports I went to !!

The plane had 25 people on it (about 180 seater all spaced out)

The intense questioning and Police presence was scary on arrival.

There were 10 Guardia Civil waiting at the passport control and two Doctors.

Every person was questioned, had to have Spanish id, sent one by one to the Doctors who took their temperatures and if they looked even a little ill were took aside.

He does not know what happened to one bloke who was taken aside , but it was mentioned that he will be sent on the same plane back to Madrid.

But at least they are being as strict as they can possibly be :thumbright:

Mallorca not allowing any UK flights in or anybody who is not a Spanish Resident in.

Surely Gatwick/ Heathrow letting 105,000 people a week in from all over the world, without any checks whatsoever is pure madness by the Govt?

I think everyone should be tested , but I think the numbers of testing kits available might have been an issue.

Very reassuring and rightly as it should be. Extra 15 minutes in the Airport is a small price for keeping us all safe

Well done Will.
Stuart Barnes would probably say that he’s got nothing else to do so no big deal.

There's some odd stuff going on mate, one of my best mates had to pay £7k to get his Mrs and his daughter home from NZ, rip off to start with but the money thing is for another day, at Heathrow straight through and into a waiting car no questions asked.

Because I’m fast learning all this is total bullshit. We are being lied to on a massive scale. Look at London Bridge and the Met police to tell you it’s bollocks.

Re: “ Landing at the airport “

Sat Apr 25, 2020 9:37 am

Should add that London is a major international hub, so many air passengers will be catching connect flights to another destination. Govt are advised by the Scientists on control measures, so follow that advice.

I read they have been advised that because transmission is already here, so risk is low. Think its about 10,000 a day at Heathrow, the rest through other airports.
Questionnaire is sensible, but many are asymptomatic for this virus.

Palma Airport:
But I tell you this …we all had to wait on the bus until the previous bus people were checked and away from the holding area …then we were let off the bus ….then we all had to stand 1 metre apart and wait until we were called to come forward, submit the form then get it checked twice before checking Residencia Passport and where you had arrived from …. Took about 45 mins to get through the process before collecting your case ….

Most youngsters hardly know they’ve had it, wouldn’t have a raised temperature and would get through immigration, and Madrid is the epicentre. If they are allowing flights from Madrid I expect you will see more cases on the coming weeks, that’s the problem with this terrible virus, it’s here until we find a vaccine.

Yes I agree coming from Madrid is very worrying, but they are trying their best, they are asked numerous questions about their health and papers and where they actually have been etc etc.

Way way better than the Uk airports Zero and all these coming in to Mallorca has to be their main residence.

Are the Uk children doing this ? ? ?
I have not seen an Under walk around Santa Ponsa once.

Don't forget the Spanish live way way, closer to each other and virtually on top of each other and the Virus got out of control, so they gave their advice from where they went wrong to the Uk, and they ignored it totally.

You can only do so much, it can't be minus zero .

How about 105,000 arriving in the Uk from all over the world and not one check? Opinion on that.

Anybody landing in Britain at the moment should be tested and forced to isolate in a airport hotel room for 7days to make sure they are not positive for the virusbor showing symptoms after arrival

Thomas 100% agree :thumbright:

Mallorca / Canaries is debating on how the Uk will enter here.

They are thinking of if Residents of the Uk have a paper not longer than 5-7 days old saying all clear thats how they might do it, say in July maybe even August.

The reason why it all concerns me is My 19yr old daughter has not been able to get here from Cardiff.

As soon as the door opened of the plane, they had Guardia Civil at the door of the plane, wanting all documents and why have you come here etc?

12 people on one bus and 13 on another to Passport control.

I've only just jumped back on the site, I have to be honest I was in the garden in the sun on the phone skimming, so I di miss the first part 25 people on a 180 seater plane, that helps.

But this is such a dangerous virus, I saw a report on the TV the other day where they traced one person on a table in a restaurant, and because there was a fan one side and aircon the other he infected 7 other people in and around him.

If you allow one ill person on the plane, which it sounds like you did, then maybe 10 people plus would have been infected through the airconditioning and let in Majorca, that can't be good if they go on to infect more on an island that been in lockdown for months?

If you really don't want it back, due to that you should have shoved them all into quarantine for 14 days as we did with the Tenerife hotel people and the cruise liner people. Even then it still got in on other planes and spread like wildfire as you can see with the cases and deaths.

Planes are spreaders you won't get many brits travelling on planes for a year until the vaccine is ready.

I'm not having a pop at you or Majorca, just saying it as I see it

As for the UK letting 105,000 people in, I can't see any logical sense at all myself?

The question is asked every day and the government's answer is more or less we have 6000 + positive tests a day as it is another couple won't really make a difference, and taking peoples temperature at the airport is a waste of time as a lot of people don't show symptoms.

We have the best brains advising the UK government and they are saying it's ok, so I would imagine this is more to do with keeping the UK economy going, I suppose to mothball Heathrow would cost a fortune, and we would miss out on valuable trade?

The government are still trying to balance the economy and making sure the NHS is not overwhelmed, it's a fine line but we have already started to lift restrictions by allowing the likes of Homebase, B&Q and Pret A Manger open.

There is no doubt the UK is taking a different approach to Spain, one more suited to the UK and they are trying to ensure when it's all over they are not completely ruined financially.

Most youngsters hardly know they’ve had it, wouldn’t have a raised temperature and would get through immigration, and Madrid is the epicentre. If they are allowing flights from Madrid I expect you will see more cases on the coming weeks, that’s the problem with this terrible virus, it’s here until we find a vaccine.

Yes I agree coming from Madrid is very worrying, but they are trying their best, they are asked numerous questions about their health and papers and where they actually have been etc etc.

Way way better than the Uk airports Zero and all these coming in to Mallorca has to be their main residence.

Annis, and you wonder why some people are ignoring lockdown rules? No offence but it's easy to point the finger, and call people moronic etc,but when people see and read what the airports allow in,with no checks at all?? The rules were far too unclear and confusing, even from line nurses, police are flouting the social distancing rule, and don't even mention the bridges in London on Thursdaysand at hospitals, where no effort has been made,by those who are supposed to lead!! We are asked to do this, then continually see the key workers flouting the advice?? It's been too sloppy from the very beginning, and will only get worse as time goes by,and no real tough enforcements are put in place! :old: :bluebird:

Having travelled back from Saudi Arabia, then Madrid then to Palma, I can tell you Palma had the strictest controls of all airports I went to !!

Oh I blame the current Govt 100% , but also the people have to use some common sense.

The Govt have been very weak and unclear on it all.
