Watched the start of the NFL draft last night and as there isn't really any football to discuss I thought I would start a thread asking what everyone thought of the whole concept. Basically the worse teams get to pick the best new college players, there are plenty of nuances to this like teams trading a pick for players or future picks or both but the player signs a 4 year contract with whichever team picks him and cannot say no thanks to a team.
So last night we had the first pick going to Cincinnati for a 4 year salary of something like $36 million and I have never anyone look so unhappy about it. He's saying now it was a dream come true to be picked first but his face last night told a different story.
Just something different for everyone to discuss if you're interested.

always thought this...Swansea have first pick and they pick me...its not like 36 mill or nothing because no doubt the team with the 2nd pick { Cardiff } pays much the same. not sure I could stay sane.

What happens if a player says no? And can players be transferred during the 4 year period?

They can say no & in fact lots of famous players have said no. John Elway & Eli Manning to name just 2 in the NFL, Kobe Bryant only ever played for the Lakers but was not drafted by them. The team who drafted them them owns their contract for at least a year and in most cases some sort of trade is done with another team more to the players liking. Players can be traded (transferred) at any time usually for other players and/or future draft picks.

Cheers.. forgot about Kobe Bryant and that crash.. never fully understood that game, but the highlights are ok.
Didn’t know Cincinnati was so near to Kentucky either...
