Updated: Swansea got next season's tickets on sale

Fri Apr 24, 2020 9:00 am

It's a good way of bringing cash into the club. Maybe we should follow them.

ALSO FOOTBALL COULD BE PLAYED BEHIND CLOSED DOORS?

So do fans just give their money away not knowing what will happen?

What if Cardiff City do this ?

SEASON 2020-21

To pay these prices you have to buy before 31st May 2020

Ridiculous decision.
How can you sell tickets for something that is not likely to happen.
Typical attitude in football. Money!

I would renew my season ticket. However I know it would
be difficult for lots of fans.
Maybe a, really good offer of reduced prices and interest
free plans would helo

The problem you have got is, this season no one knows the outcome and if it might become void or even played in August/September etc . Then when and will next season happen and what league will peoples clubs be in , promoted/ relegated or stayed the same.
There is a lot to look at and of course prices .

Also a club is asking really for donations as fans would be investing in a season that who knows what will happen and if and when?

18,500 current Cardiff Season ticket holders .

Be interesting how many would invest / donate their money in these terrible times when many will have to put their families first?

Swansea are desperate for cash. Hope this sees them go bust for a third time and they end up in the port Talbot and district Sunday league.

YET ONE OF THEIR SEASON MAIN SWANSEA FANS SAYS THIS IN TODAYS PAPERS

Guto Llewelyn:

Next season could start behind closed doors without fans.

Due to the coronavirus even televised live sport is off the menu and it could be a while until matches are even able to be played behind closed doors.

Matches behind closed doors are universally despised. Games in empty grounds with zero atmosphere just don’t feel right but I would kill for that kind of scenario right now because at least then we would have sport to watch on TV even if we could not personally attend.

The return of live football to our screens, whenever that may be, will give us a footballing fix which fans can’t get just by watching repeats of classic clashes from years gone by, but it still won’t be the same.

Football games won’t have the same bite, intensity or excitement if there are no fans involved. Even when televised, games with fervent crowds in packed stadiums feel very different to games played in front of thousands of empty seats.

For those fans who regularly attend matches in person, nothing will quite be the same until fans are allowed to attend games again.

It’s not just the thrill of watching the match, chanting for 90 minutes and celebrating three points. It’s also the little things like the pre-match pint in a grotty pub, seeing the stadium come into view as you walk to the ground or going through the usual routines like buying a programme and queueing outside the turnstiles.

This period without football has given us a new appreciation for the usually mundane aspects of a matchday which we now crave.

I have seen hundreds of Cyril the Swan’s halftime penalty shootouts in my two decades following the Swans. In recent years I’ve not paid much attention to them but I bet the next time I get the chance to see it, I’ll be hooked and I’ll embrace every second.

Even aspects of a matchday I usually hate like delayed trains, getting soaked on the way to the ground and the appalling quality of beer at the Liberty Stadium will all feel joyous if I don’t get to experience them for another six months.

Here comes the usual disclaimer when writing about missing football at this time: I know it’s a very low priority when the world is battling a deadly pandemic. Nobody is pretending it’s of particularly high importance when people are dying in their thousands as this virus continues to spread.

Nevertheless it’s normal to feel a bit gutted that something a lot of people adore will not be returning for quite a long time.

Football plays such a significant role in so many people’s lives and this is likely to be our longest period without the sport since the Second World War, or at least the longest period in which fans can’t attend games.

Fans will not be visiting the Liberty Stadium for many months, we’re still in the early stages of this footballing absence but you know what they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

This will be the longest period many of us have spent away from football grounds since we were young children but a nice thought to keep people going through this period is just how incredible that first game back will be.

The noise will be so much louder, the colours will seem so much more vibrant and the emotions will be multiplied tenfold.

No matter when it will be, no matter if it’s in the current season or the next campaign, that will be an occasion to savour.

With our billionaire owner I'd be disappointed if we did it. How can you try sell something when we have no idea of the format of when it'll take place. And you have to take into account self employed not earning money, other people on furloughed are 20% short etc

Annis Abrahamii they also need to take into account the fact that us season ticket holders have paid for games this season that we aren’t going to see. My 5 tickets cost me about £700 so the games that I’m now missing have cost me best part of £200 that I won’t see back unless they are going to take that amount off next seasons prices

No point in getting any season ticket for an club around the uk because with game being behind closed doors it will just be a waste of money. BUT If the EFL And Premier League go the root of La Liga and play games behind closed doors until 2021 then fans would simply not bother.

This season may not be completed and next season may be played completely behind closed doors. Absolutely I'd buy a season ticket to watch City, but how can they sell tickets for games if they don't know if fans can attend. It's a very difficult decision all clubs are facing as they desperately need the income.

Thomas raises a very good point. Swansea could be opening themselves up to a miss-selling scam if they are wilfully selling a product which they know can't be delivered i.e. access to live football at the Liberty Stadium?

Maybe clubs should think about a scheme which a Scottish club (can't remember which one) is employing which is to ask fans to 'donate' the price of a match day ticket to the club in order to provide cash flow.

i would certainly do that.

I have had a ST with the Bluebirds for more years than I care to think about but I wouldn't think about buying one at this moment in time. Without knowing even IF this season will be finished how can you even start to think about next season.

I can understand clubs needing income at the moment and Swansea will not be alone in that but telling fans to renew before 31st May to keep the seats is terrible customer service and, in my opinion, sticks two fingers up to their loyal supporters many of which will have held those seats for years.

With football likely to be played behind closed doors, possibly until 2021, I won't be buying a season ticket until I know exactly many games I will be able to attend. Then I will renew my ST but only IF the cost reflects the number of games I will be able to attend.

Over the next months I can see loads of football clubs going out of business and the days of Championship clubs paying silly wages to average players will end abruptly.

These are changing times in football and the prospect of months of matches behind closed doors is depressing.

Hopefully if any good is to come out of this crisis for football in will be the resetting of realistic wages for players and managers and fingers crossed the ending of greedy agent fees.

Annis, you are spot on here...

I make no secret of my preference to see out this season before any new one is started (whenever that might be) and I would sacrifice next season to see that happen in the interests of fairness to the clubs (no matter who they are) already involved in the battles for promotion/relegation across the Premier League and EFL

However, to see any club asking their loyal supporters to part with their cash in these uncertain times simply beggars belief and shows the contempt they have for their perceived 'customers'

For me, it doesn't matter that it is Swansea involved, as I'm sure other clubs will be watching the situation like Hawks to see if they could possibly do the same and it puts a heck of a lot of pressure on their supporters to 'cough up' when they may never be less able to commit to such outgoings. And even for those who can, why should they without the certainty that they may not get to see the product anytime soon?

This is not like when Sam asked us 'Ambassadors' to pay up early to help keep the club afloat or the so-called 'Ridsdale Affair' where season ticket monies were taken very early and then given to the tax man also to keep the club afloat. Both of those scenarios (and other clubs will have similar tales) were played out in the full knowledge that the payees would see football the following season for their cash commitment

The Swansea situation is more akin to paying for your holiday balance a month before you're due to travel in the full knowledge that the trip won't go ahead but it helps keep the coffers of the booking many flush until they are in a position to pay it back; if ever...

I'm not sure of the financial situation at Swansea these days but we were told they were 'the model for how a club should be run' just a few seasons ago and they sold several players for massive amounts (Siggurdsson was £45m) with no real outlay the other way

I'm not sure what warnings/informations were provided prior to this announcement but for a club whose wealthy Owners/Board are already viewed with mis-trust, this has to go down as a risky strategy; and one that could affect their club for some time to come

Tony Blue Williams (always a level head on here) says he would support 'match day donations' should it be required by or own club and that is commendable because only those who feel they could afford it would do so; but thankfully, I don't see that happening right now, as the one this we have in Vincent Tan is an owner (who can't be having it easy in his own world right now) who continues to put his own money into his club and will seemingly continue to do so whilst we ride this wretched pandemic out

There are a few Scottish clubs asking fans to donate the price of a matchday ticket to the club and there are clubs asking fans to buy season tickets for next season. This is being done to provide some cash flow to keep these clubs going. Wouldn't surprise me to see more clubs doing this including ours.
