Isn't this just based on yesterday's story, that local authority propose opening hotels in July and Aug for the Spanish only, then opening for all international travellers September.

If they restruck UK, I guess they will do the same for Italy, Belgium, switzaland, Sweden...etc..

Once they see the numbers drop in the UK over the next couple of months, they will open the opens imho

I honestly don't believe many British people will want to travel. First priority will be to get back to a normal routine here first.

Re: They are saying British not wanted

going to really struggle to get UK visitors back at all...

and they certainly don't need to be putting articles like that out...

Just so you know it was NOT the Spanish press who said this.

It was the Uk press:

Daily Express, The Sun and the Daily Star.

its unhelpful mate.. Spain gets 18 million UK visitors a year and just like everybody else will be needing every penny it can get as soon as safe.. and determining who comes out of this quickest or best if at all is months off..

Without Tourist revenue mainly British Spain would be without roughly 160 Billion Euros, 11% of GDP they need us far more than we need them

Exactly a foreign holiday is not a necessity keeping a roof over your families head is.

been visiting for almost over 40 years , most years.. and always found the vast majority of locals welcoming.. tbh I don't want to be reading im not wanted.. having said that when the time comes where a country can start accepting tourists but not from countries that are highly infected that would be acceptable.. but its jumping the gun to assume what countries will be open to who as of yet...

There are plenty of other countries to visit except Spain,it’s not the 60s anymore, the choice is vast.
The only bad time I’ve had there is when the Falklands war was in full swing and waiters were showing their support for the Argies, but money talks in the end.
I wouldn’t class going to Spain as a holiday anyway, more like a run up to the real thing like Dubai or the Caribbean.

As I said it’s not the SPANISH saying it, ITS THE BRITISH MEDIA

We had 38 coming over on a Stag do end of June, we would easily have spent £500 each on spending money alone thats almost £20,000 lost in one group into the local pubs etc from one group on one weekend.

We are waiting to see what's going to happen, I'm happy to take a credit note and hopefully go later in the year or next year but most want their money back.

We are all in for a rough ride over the next 12 months for sure, I feel sorry for the Spanish if they lose out on the tourism, especially the islands.

As for back home, how many pubs etc are going to left when we come out of this will be interesting, lots were already on their arse, how they will survive this I don't know

Stephen,

Thanks, I see Spain suffering way more than many other countries and Italy financially and already places near me have gone under and handed the keys in

The turkish president has pretty much said the same to his people, holiday at home,to encourage the travellers to holiday here, show them turkey is safe.this from a country that has the highest rates in the region (and growing daily),but still only certain age groups are banned from going out (under 20s and over 60's) and a lockdown in certain cities on weekends!! Most of industry still up and running!! I love turkey, and had planned going again this year, but that's not on for me,so have done my pad up,and bought new furniture instead, and we will, have to holiday at home this year, tbh after being in lockdown, even a week anywhere except my home sounds fantastic to me :laughing5:

Agreed Annis, even countries like turkey, who had a good year last year, will suffer horribly, the turkish economy was weak enough before this! One of my turkish friends, resides in Izmir, spends 7 months down south in bodrum, running his restaurant.when we spoke the other day, this is just not what he needed right now, a lost season for some,is enough to bankrupt them,he is fortunate enough to be fluent in 4 languages,so teaches in Izmir during the winter months, but that won't be enough for him to pay his mortgage! He is shitting it,as schools are open, and he may have to teach for the full year this year,in the hope he can spring back in time for next year, but even teaching all year, doesn't get near to what he makes at his restaurant,so he will have to survive on peanuts to survive the year!! I've never in 25 years heard his voice tremble as it did the other evening.

One huge obstacle to any kind of travel or holiday is also about to raise its head with future sales of travel insurance

Any reputable insurance firm Aviva, Admiral etc are almost certain to have Covid 19 restrictions on all future policies

Would you travel abroad knowing you are not covered if you need any treatment for the virus???

Unfortunately, I don’t think Spain, Turkey, Greece or any other country relying on tourism is going to be in a position to pick and choose who they let in because no one is going to want to come for the foreseeable future

Fingers crossed this will only be temporary.. but will people’s attitudes to foreign travel alter in the future and how many hotels and bars will go bankrupt in the meantime??

The social and economic consequences of this virus will be affect us for many years to come

I would love to visit Spain once all this nonsense is over. I can't see much of a tourist trade for Spain this summer but a vaccine should be available next year and I would certainly go after being inoculated.

What I like about Erdogan is that when Tomas Cook failed he instructed hotels to allow tourists to have protection. My brother was in the industry and there were horror stories of families being kicked out of their rooms in hotels in various countries, the Turkish President stepped in and instructed the tourist powers to be to intervene with hoteliers . He was wise, such actions potentially harmed future bookings. So more power to him.

Each to their own I suppose, personally I think he is abhorrent, he is one of the small number of people in charge of the country, who has TOTAL power,OVER EVERYTHING! ! say anything against him, look out! ! He has been described as trying to be the next sultan of turkey, has spent years destroying what kemal attaturk had done for turkey, when I speak to turks over there, they all say the "coup " a few years back, was set up!! He will get inro bed with anyone,if it makes him look food, one thing has changed in Turkey though, the people are getting f@cked off with him, there are loads of Un finished building products, the country is on its knees, and he starts building the biggest mosque in the world, while his people are suffering,at a cost of around a billion pounds too!!! To the Turks I know as friends from over 25 yrs of visiting the country are dead against the man,yes he did step in with Thomas Cook, but he is also wanting the tourist trade badly.just as many other countries who rely on the tourist trade ,as it makes up a good portion of their gdp, :old: :bluebird:
