What a disaster

Wed Apr 22, 2020 10:19 am

The Week long Cheltenham races have ended up causing more deaths than anything else in the UK

60,000 a day were crammed together, the people who went were idiots but even worse the GOVT.

Cheltenham doubled its infections and deaths and the people leaving spread it all over the UK , morning tv just reported.

We all said on here at the time it should not go ahead .

Yep, this was mental whatever your feelings on how/when the government reacted. The decision to let such an event with people travelling from many countries at that time was based on greed and nothing else.

I could make a political comment abut the number of Tory supporters who own racehorses .................... but I won't

Liverpool mayor wants investigation into Atletico fixture

Dan Roan

BBC Sports editor

The mayor of Liverpool City Region has called for an investigation into whether a Champions League fixture should have taken place in the city in March amid concerns it could have led to a high number of local coronavirus cases.

Liverpool's match against Atletico Madrid at Anfield on 11 March was attended by 52,000 supporters, including 3,000 from the Spanish capital, where a partial lockdown was already in force.

The UK government has defended its decision to allow such events to go ahead before restrictions on mass gatherings were enforced 10 days later.

Mayor Steve Rotheram said: "If people have contracted coronavirus as a direct result of a sporting event that we believe shouldn't have taken place, well that is scandalous."

Minister defends decision to allow Cheltenham Festival to go ahead

Asked whether it had been right to allow the Cheltenham Festival to go ahead, Mr Hancock said: "There will be a time for a review of that.

"I've absolutely no doubt that the sort of review called for will happen, quite rightly."

He added: "We need to learn in case there are future pandemics like this."

Mr Hancock defended the decision to let the racing event go ahead in March, and said: "We followed the scientific advice, we were guided by that science. I think broadly we took the right measures at the right time.

"We were ahead of many other countries in Europe in terms of when we took the measures."

Asked whether there had been any possibility of postponing the festival, Mr Hancock said: "No, the science at the time was quite clear and the scientific advice we were getting was quite clear."

I remember there was a thread on here not long back discussing whether or not we should attend the Leeds match.Thankfully the decision was taken out our hands.

Some of those determined to go may have come to regret their decision.

Crazy decision to go ahead Thank good the rugby and football were called off in Cardiff

I think 50% of people just wanted to watch horse racing and the other 50% is thinking more of the money than the health risk of the people attending. I know i might be far off the mark but the people who run the whole thing should off at least postpone the event due to the news such as football and formula 1 are being called off.
