I think footballers are being put in a unfair position. Ozil donated his world cup winnings in 2014 so 23 Brazilian children could have life changing ops to mark his weading last year he paid for 1000 children to have life changing ops that's just from a quick search he may do more.

The guy is just a loathsome, selfish, greedy individual..hated by the German people, not particularly liked in Turkey and is about to go to the top of the disliked list in the UK
Wish he would f**k of back to Germany or Turkey or whenever he belongs!!

Yes I agree footballers are easy targets and some do loads of charity work etc and should be commended
However, this guy has previous for being a selfish, greedy git and deserves all the criticism he is about to get

350 000 a week and he s not prepared to take
a temporary pay cut absolutely disgusting ,
Some of these players think they are above anyone
else , they should be donating some their wages
to the nurses who s wages are nt very good considering
What they are doing .

I could never understand why he was given such a large salary by AW as he can be such a brilliant player one game and totally ineffective, in the next game. With the pay cut, he’d still on over 300k a week.

We all make charitable donations I have made many payments to different charities it is all relative. Over the past 10 years I like millions of others have seen our income's go down because of austerity in order to help save the UK economy.
Football clubs are now asking the same of their players to help save the football clubs and the employment of those who do the background work and get paid average wages.
If this greedy selfish b*stard can't see that and be prepared to accept a new wage of only £306,250 PER WEEK in order to help then he should be vilified.

Hasn’t he said that he doesn’t agree with this as he hasn’t been told what the money is going for and he prefers to donate the money directly?
Surely this is his right?

Neil, I'm all for the players choosing to donate directly from their pockets; it's then their choice of who it goes to and they will still have paid full taxes at source on the full amount
Hats off to Gareth Bale (and his wife) for what he did yesterday and I for one won't be 'demanding' he also takes a pay cut in addition to what he's already done

But surely the circumstances in these unprecedented times requires a collective response? Aren't we always being told 'we are all in this together?'
In that case then surely he should participate in a collective response to take a 12.5% pay cut which he may get back if Arsenal qualify for the Champions League within the next 2 years.
I'm sorry but any player who puts up excuses to not do their bit is nothing but a greedy selfish tw*t.

Not when Arsenal have an owner who is worth billions and staggering assets.
He is known as somewhat of a philanthropist is Ozil. It’s not my place to judge him for refusing to give back 12.5% of his wages to a club that makes massive profits and will continue to well into the future once this is all sorted.
It’s not the money it’s the principle for him.
