Amazing.
In answer to your question I think sadly the answer is yes.

Led by the President they have, this sort of attitude is hardly surprising :banghead:

What the thick s*^%s don't recognise is that it's not just about them catching it, it's about the chance that they could transfer it to somebody elderly or vulnerable. How would they feel if they were allowed to go back to work, then transferred the virus to their family and one or more of them got seriously ill. Is that OK ?

They keep on about their civil rights but what the civil rights of those who they might be putting at risk ?

Quite telling that there have been no such mass demonstrations anywhere else in the world; the same administration that denounces climate change, blames everything on WHO and concentrates all it's efforts on re-opening the economy whilst it's population are dying in huge numbers and central government has left the individual states to look after themselves.

Anyone in any doubt as to how serious this is, watch the attached and then tell me who you would believe; Trump or the Governor of New York !?

Every country has its idiots, some just happen to be more extreme than others and the bigger the country the more there are.

Why the anger?
Sweden, Iceland, S. Korea and Taiwan haven't shut their countries down but have maintained lower infection and death levels than most countries.

There is nothing wrong with wanting an alternative approach, especially when it has been successfully elsewhere.

Sweden and Iceland have one of the top infection rates per capita in the world Only small population leaves them with a low death number at present

But this point is that this is in the US where the death rate is pretty high and continuing so the approach in the US needs to be more stringent not less

Are people seriously believing that relaxing the restrictions in the US right now would improve the death rate :o :banghead:

Yes but they are behind us in the timing of the pandemic.

I'm not defending the UK handling, what I'm saying is that the people in the US asking for the lockdown are risking exposing many thousands of vulnerable people to serious illness, where is the logic or science behind that ?

There are pockets of the US, e.g. New York, that have a very high death rate. If lockdown is eased too early and inter-state travel increases you don't need to be a scientist to work out the likely impact !!!!

You definitely raise a good point and I'm not disputing it, but I think people should be allowed to demonstrate and ask for the data that supports these decisions.

I think we deserve the arguments from both sides, in order to come to a sensible decision on the correct approach. I'm not sure we have really had that opportunity. When our rights are taken away from us (even on a temporary basis), I think its okay to ask for answers.

I read on the BBC that there are some demonstrations in a couple of European countries as well as the USA so there are stupid people everywhere.

death rate there is lower than many European countries...its just a huge nation and figures are therefore bigger...43k sounds huge... but its actually less deaths than the USA experiences on a weekly basis

It's equally as dull to think that the protesters are anything more than the lunatic fringe.

I live in the US and yes there is plenty of dumb to go around, especially away from the coasts, but believe me when I say that when I go home home for a visit all it takes is a walk around Asda and hear some people talking to feel like the average intelligence level in the UK has dropped considerably over the last 30 years and that I've learned a lot from the "stupid Yanks".

Most people over here have pitched in and done their part, but they don't make the news, only the crazies do that. How about showing some images of the hospital staff who stood in front of the traffic to defy the protesters, that's amazing bravery.

Come on, boys, you know there's stupid everywhere you go.

Trump suggests injecting people with 'disinfectant'

President Trump has triggered a backlash from medical experts after saying researchers were looking at the effects of disinfectants and wondered if they could be injected into people.

Mr Trump said at a White House briefing on Thursday that, the virus "does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that".

William Bryan of the Department of Homeland Security said there was no consideration of that. While Dr Deborah Birx appeared to give a look of exacerbation

Disinfectant giant warns against injecting its products

David Shukman

Science editor, BBC News

The world’s biggest manufacturer of disinfectants has issued a stark rebuttal of President Trump’s suggestion that injecting them could help treat coronavirus.

RB, the makers of Dettol and Lysol, warns against any internal use of the products.

“As a global leader in health and hygiene products, we must be clear that under no circumstance should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body (through injection, ingestion or any other route).”

The statement adds that disinfectant and hygiene products “should only be used as intended and in line with usage guidelines”.
