Insane how some have been breaking the rules on an almost daily basis.

Personally I have gone to the supermarket once a week and that's it. That's how I'll continue to operate until the restrictions are lifted.

Seen people complain that because they don't have a garden they have to break the rules - but that is bullshit.

I live alone in a flat on the third floor of a building with no garden obviously, and as I said I've managed by only going outside to go to the supermarket once a week.

I don't know why some people seem to think they're exempt.

I don't think that's true, Belgium, Spain, Italy and France look well ahead of us at the moment?

Spain and Belgium are twice as bad :o

Ned,

Complete madness and no common sense .

Some were as bad calling it fake news and even argued for it.

The UK still needs to get stricter and not think about lifting a pretend lockdown.

Your being very sensible :thumbright:

Correct, this is worse case scenario.

Unfortunately the worse case scenario for US, Italy and Spain (in particular) is much, much worse.

Sensationalising reporting doesn’t help anyone. Listen to the whole interview, it puts a whole different slant on things.

Lets hope your right, but BBC & Sky had the above as main headline at 1pm on the News, hopefully they are wrong.

Dont forget UK does not include Care homes or private homes, which is a couple more thousand.

Spain does and is slowing down every day.

Re: “ SADLY UK SET TO BE THE WORST IN EUROPE “

The problem with all these reports and quotes is that nobody actually knows what is going to happen or is even likely to happen. It's never happened before so we have no model to work off. It's all guesswork and scaremongering.

Can 200000 people die of this over multiple waves ? Yes it's possible

Will we only lose 20k people over a single wave ? Yes it's possible

Will it get totally out of hand and kill millions ? Yes it's possible

BUT it's also possible this will go away just as quickly as it started and never see it again for hundreds of years like other virus

We just need to play it out and hope we take the right course it's all guesswork there are NO experts regarding this virus because nobody has seen it before and NOBODY knows how it will behave going forward

We actually have the luxury of watching other countries after the peak to learn from so we should fair better than them eventually by not repeating mistakes they make

The reporters in the UK are starting to sensationalise the situation, they are really looking to have a go at the government for everything and say that people are not obeying the rules.

I can say in North Cardiff they are being brilliant, quite a few going for walks but keeping a good distance and no problems whatsoever, the shops are brilliant and everyone is being sensible and walking miles apart from each other, I'm sure there is the odd idiot, but it's rare and not the norm.

The above reports give deaths per thousand so give a true reflection, of course the US has a lot of deaths but it has a massive population so it's always going to have bigger numbers.

Re: “ SADLY UK SET TO BE THE WORST IN EUROPE “

Fri Apr 17, 2020 1:16 pm

There will be around 900 deaths recorded today in the UK - And this is back on the rise ...

Who was it in this country said we will try and keep this down to 20,000 deaths ??

Re: “ SADLY UK SET TO BE THE WORST IN EUROPE “

Fri Apr 17, 2020 1:16 pm

This has to be seen in context. I am not denying that we are high up there, but the UK has the second highest population in Europe and crucially most of that population is concentrated in a smaller area than say France which has a similar population but is a much more rural country. The country which seems to be hit the worst at the moment is Belgium which locked down some time before us and far more strictly. It has twice the death rate per capita of the UK. Belgium with a population of 11 million has had more deaths than Germany which has the highest population in Europe- 80 million - and is next door.

I dont include USA as its virtually bigger the Europe so I dont compare.

Yes they are blaming Govt.

But for me Media are as bad demanding when is the pretend lockdown being lifted going on and on about it 24/7.

When Police tried to be strict in UK, media had ago at them.

Also common sense should of been used more by some of the UK public.

Govt, are also not strict.

Great to hear North Cardiff being very sensible :thumbright: :thumbright: :thumbright:

Many in Belgium actually ignoring lockdown and many nights of riots by the Turks in some areas, awful riots.

The fig of 847 yet again is reported on Gov web page as just Hospital deaths - Nothing about Care Homes etc -
I personally think that those left in charge have not got a clue and are waiting for Boris to get back .
The sooner he is back the better - the sooner these in charge start to be open and honest - would get respect !!!

What do you expect when we are run by third rate local council failures? Really why are we surprised? Anyone who watched the the Piers Morgan -Helen Whately interview on Wednesday can only realize we are in big trouble. The calibre of officialdom is woeful to the point of imbecility at times. For me it was the Cheltenham Festival being allowed to go ahead which highlighted the complete indifference to what was coming down the pipe. Mat Hancock, Dominic Raab sought high Office well here it is boys.
I am no fan of Morgan but seemingly he is the only person attempting to hold Ministers to account:

All but 30 are people had underlying health conditions like diabetes or Heart disease, it begs the question does this virus test the state of different nations general Health?

China, South Korea, Germany good standard of health compared with other European Countries, probably?

It's obvious what we need to do, identify people with underlying health conditions and the over 70's and wrap them in cotton wool, fully protect them until there is a vaccine, and gradually unlock the rest starting with the youngest and fittest, as long as they don't live with old people or people with poor health.

I think he was harsh, she's obviously a weak link but was smiling because she was nervous, and when he spotted weakness he bullied her a bit I thought?

Hancock stood up to him, he's a fanny, he completely bottled it when Alistar Campbell offered a fight!

More flights to get Brits home from India

James Landale

Diplomatic correspondent

The government has announced it is arranging an extra 17 charter flights to bring a further 4,000 British nationals back home from India.

Jan Thompson, the acting high commissioner in Delhi, said the flights would leave from Amritsar, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Goa, Mumbai and Bangalore next week. The Foreign Office said the most vulnerable would be given priority for the flights, which would cost up to £591.

So far the UK has arranged the repatriation of about 5,000 Britons on 19 chartered flights.

Officials estimate there are still a further 15,000 Britons in India seeking to return after the country was subject to severe transport restrictions to combat Covid-19.

Ms Thompson said the existing waiting list was “large” and only those travellers who had previously registered with the High Commission were likely to get a seat on these latest charters.

But she acknowledged there would have to be future flights to continue returning one of the largest groups of UK nationals still stranded overseas.

Many UK travellers in India have expressed their frustration at the Foreign Office’s handling of the repatriation effort, which some have said was slow and lacking transparency compared with other countries.

Bluebina you are right to an extent. Morgan is a what he is, a publicity seeking bully at times. However he does get things done .The Windrush scandal witnessed a gentleman who had paid his taxes for close to 50 years being flung into a detention centre awaiting deportation!!!! A nurse with similar credentials being sacked by the NHS because she did not have the relevant paperwork shredded by the Tory government. Morgan sorted it on live TV perhaps if we had left it to the morons who instigated this immoral crisis we still be nowhere? Say what you like he get things done and please don't mention that lying creep Campbell if he said it was daylight I would look out the window.

Ha ha I can't stand Campbell either he's an idiot, but Piers definitely bottled a fight.

I know what you mean about Piers but he likes the sound of his own voice too much these days, and is not giving people the chance to answer. Boris and Cummings will probably block him again, so I expect he will be crying again next week, when they are all on with Dan Walker :laughing6:

2nd point i was NOT the ONE who gave a figure at the start what the target was !!!
