JUNE 6TH FOR CARDIFF/SWANSEA ETC 9 MATCHES TO START WITHOUT

Wed Apr 15, 2020 2:12 pm

Clubs are agreeing to go ahead and finish this season from 6th June without crowds , but live on Sky for the remaining nine games.

The radical changes Cardiff City and Swansea City fans could see if the Championships resumes on June 6

The Bluebirds and Swans hope to be playing again this summer, but there will be differences

Prem and EFL leagues.

Cardiff City and Swansea City are hoping to kick-start the Championship season again, with June 6 being mooted as a date for a return to action.

Without crowds and Sky tv beaming all matches.

Right across Europe, matches will need to be crammed into a short period of time to finish the 2019-20 campaign.

And with games coming thick and fast in the summer, the Express report that the International Football Association Board are proposing a number of key changes to the rules to help mitigate against playing in the hot weather.

There are still nine matches to go in the Championship and here are just some of the changes Bluebirds and Swans fans could be seeing...

FIVE SUBSTITUTES

At the moment teams name seven subs and are permitted to use three of them.

But IFAB, who make the rules, are considering the number is increased to five for the remainder of the season, report the Express.

The reasons would be twofold. One is to help players cope with the sun, if it proves to be a particularly hot summer.

The other is to ensure players avoid becoming fatigued and picking up muscle injuries with matches likely to be crammed into a short period of time.

WATER BREAKS

This is the kind of thing we have occasionally seen at summer World Cup tournaments, but it is another matter IFAB are considering.

The plan is for play to stop and an official water break to be taken, probably midway through each half.

The referee, presumably, would have to choose an appropriate moment for the break in play, rather than just blow the whistle at the exact midway point.

In some countries, there could be two drinks breaks per half.

CLOSED STADIA, OR LIMITED CROWDS

This one, of course, depends entirely upon where we stand at the time with the coronavirus outbreak.

But behind closed doors matches are being considered, to avoid large gatherings. So only players, staff, club officials and the media would be entitled to attend.

This is expected to happen if fixtures do resume, as planned, on June 6 and will be reviewed thereafter.

The alternative would be significantly reduced crowds, although nothing definitive has been put on this in terms of numbers.

It's hard to see how that one would be managed. How do you differentiate between one season ticket holder and another, for example?

But these are the issues clubs will talk about with the relevant authorities.

Wonder if they'll allow loan extensions.

Can understand people wanting season to be finished but football without fans is nothing and players have stated that it's hard to get motivated in an empty stadium so will just feel like watching a dull friendly surely?

Can't see this happening not unless we have a vaccine by June which I doubt. Even a behind closed doors scenario will involve at least 50 if not more, plus medical staff and first aiders. Not going to happen unless there is a vaccine.

Don't know about the vaccine but otherwise I think youre right.
Government will decide not football authorities.

I cannot see any major sport resuming until there is a vaccine. As for fan participation even more so think about it 30-40--60 thousand crowds !!!! Not going to happen , political suicide

i can not see any football going ahead, they might as well just void the season now instead of holding on to this idea that it can be started again, greed is the only reason clubs want to start again because sides have overspent trying to reach the premier league. How can you hold games behind closed doors millions of fans are going to watch games on tv meeting up in pubs that should be closed and around peoples houses who have sky or bt to watch games without how many that are still going to turn up at grounds and promotion party's ,play offs and final. never in a million years we have got to stop this virus taking off again or it will be another 12 week lockdown.

Seems a reasonable proposal to me, if things carry on as expected over the next 8 weeks, if should be fine to carry out u der carefully managed Conditions.

If they’re on about possibly opening schools, shops etc up slowly then I agree that behind closed doors and well managed it could work.

has anyone ever noticed how many people are involved and the logistics involved in putting on a live game, it's not one guy with an iphone, it's all opinions but i just can not see the government giving the go ahead to any mass gatherings for many months.

A school being opened will be a mass gathering.
I’m just going on the thinking behind if there’s talk of schools possibly being opened up early June along with other businesses then I see it as a possibility.
I’ve no idea of the full logistics but TV programmes are generally managing okay atm so it may be possible.

It would be great to see. But personally I can’t see it happening. Hope I’m wrong on this.
