Johnson ‘will not return to work immediately’
We’ve got some more details about UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s discharge from hospital on Sunday
Johnson will continue his recovery at Chequers, the prime minister’s country residence in Buckinghamshire, Downing Street says.
“On the advice of his medical team, the PM will not be immediately returning to work,” a spokesman said.
The spokesman said Johnson wished to thank the staff at St Thomas’ Hospital for the “brilliant care he has received”, adding that his thoughts were with others affected by Covid-19.
On Saturday, Johnson, 55, said he owed his life to the NHS staff treating him for coronavirus.
Johnson tested positive for the virus on 27 March.

Good news and great speech from him on thr NHS

i am very pleased he has recovered but I'd feel that about anyone getting over this dreadful virus. I think its way too early to say if he or the government have done a 'brilliant' job. I do believe the government are battling an incredible challenge and are doing everything they can but mistakes have certainly been made. For example, not closing our borders and flights in to the country earlier. It is perfectly reasonable to question and criticise aspects of the government response and not to accept the line 'its the same for all countries'. But like I say I am pleased he has recovered and thought his thank you speech to the hospital was very gracious.

Parents 'proud' of daughter who nursed Boris Johnson
Mike and Caroline McGee, the parents of Jenny McGee, one of the nurses thanked by Boris Johnson after he left hospital, spoke to the BBC about their pride in their daughter's professionalism.
The UK prime minister said two nurses - Jenny from New Zealand and Luis from Portugal - stood by his bedside for 48 hours at the most critical time.
McGee told her parents it was the "most surreal time in her life", they said.
Johnson was admitted to St Thomas' Hospital in London on Sunday - 10 days after testing positive for Covid-19.

Boris Johnson now tests negative for virus
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson tested negative for coronavirus before being discharged from hospital yesterday, a government spokesman has said.
He said Johnson was continuing his recovery at Chequers, his official country residence. Asked why he was there rather than his primary residence of No 10, the spokesman said it was “considered to be a suitable place”.
The prime minister had spoken to Dominic Raab, who is deputising for him, over the weekend. “The PM is focusing on his recovery and not currently carrying out government work,” the spokesman added.
Separately, the government has denied that Cabinet minister Michael Gove’s daughter being tested for coronavirus was an example of “double standards,” after controversy about a lack of testing for frontline staff.
The spokesman said the test was carried out “on the advice of the chief medical officer and in line with medical guidance”.
“The test ensured Michael Gove could get back to work to help drive the government’s response at a critical time,” the spokesman said.

Boris Johnson recovering and 'not involved' in decision making
Downing Street has said Boris Johnson was continuing his recovery at Chequers and was not involved in making decisions, taking phone calls or receiving official papers in his ministerial red boxes.
The Prime Minister's official spokesman said: "The priority is for the PM to rest and recover and his medical team have advised him not to immediately return to work."
It comes as his chief aide, Dominic Cummings, returned to work in Downing Street after recovering from coronavirus symptoms.
Number 10 was questioned about why Mr Cummings did not appear to be maintaining a two-metre gap from fellow aide Cleo Watson.
The Prime Minister's official spokesman said: "He is back in Number 10 and working today."
The spokesman said "everybody in Number 10 continues to practice social distancing, which means staying two metres apart wherever possible".
