Wait till next week - these figs are going to go up and up - a lot of un reported deaths to be added on next week .
Confirmed cases are what people should look at over 20,000 in the last 4 days - and Yes more testing is being done .

Why the Hell are we glossing over the numbers in entirety?
It's awful enough that we are seeing "hospital deaths" let alone the true total.
The nursing homes charge humungous sums. PPE shortages!?

The government have done fantastic in crazy circumstances. Yes everyone knew about china but nobody expected a pandemic like this.
The government couldn't win either way. The people wanted brexit which cost a fortune and was the big issue ar the time without having to legislate for Covid. If they had spent billions on PPE and the NHS 5 months ago everybody would be saying what a waste of money.
You say you were ready which is fine as you are one person but try getting 70 million people ready at once without crashing the economy and ruining millions of lives.

That's the problem Brexit was still on Gov / peoples minds at the time .
As for now yes trying their best to but still falling short the past few weeks with PPE - Agree with this lockdown.
Only wish they would get tougher on some of the idiot's in this country .

I think they are probably doing as much as they can with the PPE. They cant just magic it out of nowhere. The sheer numbers needed to cover every hospital, care home and key worker are unbelievable. Maybe the hospitals need to try and make it last longer like the health secretary said today which sounds awful but it may be the only way out of this mess until they can produce enough to cover it properly. We just do not have the industry anymore which is the biggest problem. Every country in the world are buying up as much as possible.
I agree with the idiots though the government are letting the people who are staying in down by not dealing with them . Make them lose the grant money and benefits if found outside. If they are not claiming then a 5k on theme spot fine or prison

It’s very easy to say you know better in these circumstances. The fact is that’s it’s a horrible condition which had infiltrated globally. The data collection varies considerably but in which the most developed countries are collecting more data but in different ways. Comparisons from country to country are very hard if not impossible to make. Let’s not point fingers. It’s a horrible situation and I think most people are doing their very best to help in whatever way they can

A few weeks back one Government offical said we will do well to keep the death rate below 20,000. That shook me and I thought it was a scare tactic to keep people at home. I have stayed at home and would have besides that statement but what is really frightening now is that figure could be a lot higher going on its rate it is doing.

Just a little bit of perspective here I hope.
There is a very interesting article in the Mail today - not a great fan of that paper but it does quote statistics which I'm sure can be disproven if they are inaccurate.
The Office of National Statistics weekly death charts for week 13 of the year(week ending 27th March) show a five year average of 10130 deaths per week - this year it was 11141. That's 1011 more deaths this year than last or an extra 144 per day.
That's tragic and I don't want in any way to underplay the devastating effect that even one death has on the family of the individual concerned.
Respiratory death figures for the first quarter of this year are lower trhan those in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
There are no figures being made available for the amount of deaths which are solely responsible to coronavirus and nothing else.
Let me stress again that I do not wish to downplay in any way the effect that this is having on individuals and on the financial and mental health that it will have on hundreds of thousands even millions of people in the coming years but we musn't get carried away by the idea that for all of us there is some terrifying boogeyman lurking outside our front door ready to kill us the moment we step outside.

No your right but as individuals we must be disciplined and adhere to the government guide lines then when this is all over we can be proud of ourselves.
Unlike the small minority of scumbags I see who are just carrying on as normal.

1) Due to China lying about a virus with HTH transmission and the WHO listening to them rather than Taiwan, three weeks notice was lost. The Southampton University study predicted 95% fewer cases and deaths if the world acted three weeks sooner.
https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/3904054https://henryjacksonsociety.org/publica ... pensation/2) China was buying up all the masks and PPE it could lay it's hands on while the rest of the World was oblivious to the crisis.
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2140583) Due to the EU it had become common practice for government departments to put things out to tender. This has resulted in more and more of our essential products becoming manufactured overseas, where labour is cheaper and production costs are less. UK manufacturing cannot compete with countries who have lower H + S costs, lower environmental costs and even slave labour (Chinese prisoners have been used in the past as forced labour).
3) People in the UK want cheaper products and are also often too lazy to visit the high street, even when it can be cheaper than buying online. In the early days of online shopping the companies undercut the high street, but the high street has had to lower prices to compete and is now often cheaper, when taking into account delivery charges. The increase in online shopping is killing the high street as well as UK manufacturing, some of which would make PPE.
