Liverpool Furlough non playing staff

Sat Apr 04, 2020 2:58 pm

I can't believe these top Clubs with all the Billions that have been around in the game are doing this so soon.

Why just non playing staff, what am I missing? Why isn't it all staff?

I guess unless its agreed then it would be redundancies.

Obviously they aren't going to do that with multimillion pound assets. I would think unless agreed it would deem a contract void so a lot more difficult.

This’ll be interesting, here we have a race that is constantly downtrodden, fighing against the elements, standing up for the little guy.
Sisters Brothers we’re all in this together,oh hang on XYZ are struggling to make ends meet on eye watering salaries, here was a chance for LFC to be loved again and not only in Newport.

I wonder if a lot of these clubs/companies are taking advantage of the Government's 80% commendable (but ultimately open to abuse) scheme?

They could easily make up the 20% as 'small change' but that wouldn't be the case for the playing staffs, as the max. is £2500

Just a thought...

Maybe but then I dont think that will be any different to a lot of companies. It's tough on most companies but I guess the club have to do what's best for the club.

I think they would have just made redundancies otherwise and thats what the scheme is in place for.

It's the Job Retention Scheme. Would they be making these 200 employees redundant if they didn't furlough them? Almost definitely not. Even if it went on for 3 months, it's maximum £1.6m they'd be getting credits. To create redundancies they would need to make the job redundant not just the employee. That won't happen.
Liverpool's actions have come under almost universal condemnation from their fanbase and even their most loyal ex players such as Carragher and Hammam have spoken up against it. Let's not forget the club posted a profit of 150m last year on revenue of 450m. Their owners have made a huge PR mistake by doing this.
