im staying in the house , but have to say I see no evidence of the lockdowns actually working..{ other than in China if you believe them }

Italy , Spain, France and our selves have seen cases at least double within 5 days of lockdown and multiplied by 6 after 10 days....deaths have also spiraled following much the same path ..and no sign of it dropping anywhere, just false dawns.

I know its possibly selfish but I hope we don't have it, I'm happy for more powers to the Police though.

We need to stop these people who are flouting the rules, for example, your only supposed to go to the supermarket for essentials but people are still just nipping in each day for 'this and that', its selfish and really not fair on the workers who are risking their lives.

Nobody should be going to the Supermarket or shop more than once a week surely?

The only reason I don't want a total lockdown is I need my daily exercise for the state of my mind, I think the government have got it bang on so far, everything they have told us that will happen has rung true with the figures etc, just maybe need to turn the screw up another notch or two on the offenders and make the punishments more severe so they wont risk it.

PS, Got told today unofficially we'll be in this 'lockdown' until the end of May through my job (government outsourcer), announcement imminent, hardly breaking news I know, most people probably realise that will be the case but our CEO pretty much said it and he mingles in some top tables.

The alternative could be worse though. They were lording Sweden at the beginning of the week who seemed to be showing little ill effect from leaving everything open. The last 5 days the death rate has shot up and they could of stored up a pile of misery for the coming weeks.

There’s no endgame until a vaccine is sorted. Nothing will change re the old and vulnerable they need protecting.

Wuhan released full lock down restrictions after 59 days. April and May will indeed be grim and an inevitable lock down will be needed. Eventually restrictions will have to be partially released. The economic damage is going to be catastrophic and you can not keep a whole nation under lock and key forever. The race is on for what our exit strategy to all this can be. We simply can't wait for a vaccine so how can we create a mass public testing industry over night? The biggest peace time task since WW2. In England it is quiet knowledge that educational establishments will honour all their supply contracts until 30th June even if the service can not be provided. I think this an interesting hint about planned economic resumption. The economy must restart in some way soon and yes that is with the virus still around and with people dying but a much more controlled level. The calculation is then can the NHS cope with the economy churning again. I think the difficult decision we will face later this year is, if you have not yet had the virus, do you go to the pub, theatre and football matches? or do you maintain your social distance until a vaccine is eventually produced? A very long wait for that I think.

Extended lockdown to be formally announced by FM

An extended lockdown in Wales will be formally announced by First Minister Mark Drakeford, Julie James says.

She said: “I'm telling you today that we are extending it, but the formal announcements for that will be made by the first minister, later in plenary I suspect and then tomorrow in the press conferences.

“We are definitely extending the lockdown – it will not be raised next week.”

Lockdown 'will stay in place next week'

Wales' First Minister Mark Drakeford has confirmed the lockdown measures to combat the spread of coronavirus will stay in place next week.

They were initially introduced last month for a three-week period, which would have expired next Tuesday.

Mr Drakeford tweeted: “We have asked people to stay home to slow the spread of coronavirus, and there are signs that this is having an impact.

"The efforts we are making are not yet over, measures will stay in place next week.

“Together, we are making a difference, protecting our NHS and saving lives.”

Lockdown to last 'several more weeks' says Gething

The lockdown due to coronavirus will remain in place for "several more weeks at the very least", the Welsh health minister has said.

Vaughan Gething told the BBC "we need to give a much clearer message that this isn't going to end anytime soon".

First Minister Mark Drakeford confirmed on Wednesday that the measures in Wales will be extended into next week.

But Chancellor Rishi Sunak declined to say whether UK ministers will extend the coronavirus lockdown in England at a briefing yesterday.

The devolved governments and UK ministers will discuss the issue later on Thursday.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Mr Gething said: "We haven't put a definite period of the end of lockdown because we do want to have a conversation with all four nations about the emerging scientific evidence and advice, on how far the measures we've taken so far have made an impact on flattening the curve on reducing the admission to our health service, and indeed on saving lives.

"I actually think the honest truth is we'll review lockdown.

"We may agree review periods for lockdown, but we need to give a much clearer message that this isn't going to end anytime soon.

"We're in for several more weeks at the very least."

Mr Raab says the government is continuing to gather data to assess what effect the lockdown measures are having.

"The early signs suggest they are having an impact," he says, but adds that it is too early to say that conclusively. He says the measures will have to stay in place "until we have got evidence that shows we have moved beyond the peak".

The number of deaths is still rising, he says, and adds it is too early to lift the measures.

"We mustn't give the coronavirus a second chance to kill more people. I know it is tough going but this is a team effort."
