The home of the Bluebirds and Wales football team is helping out in the current crisis

A coronavirus testing facility is being set up in the car park of the Cardiff City Stadium in Leckwith.

Images of tents being erected at the top end of the car park at Cardiff City Stadium, home to the Bluebirds and Ryan Giggs' Wales team, were put on social media on Thursday.

The Bluebirds have also offered their nearby House of Sport indoor training arena to the authorities if they want to utilise the facility.

It follows the city centre's Principality Stadium being turned into an emergency hospital to help with the crisis.

Bluebirds chief executive Ken Choo said: "We are helping to provide a coronavirus testing facility. We've given our services.

"We are working closely with the government, council, and the authorities to make sure we can facilitate this. We've also offered the House of Sport if they need it. We wish to help in any way we can."

A statement by Public Health Wales revealed that Deloitte are behind the creation of the testing centre and are working with the UK Government to deliver the UK-wide coronavirus testing of key workers.

A Public Health Wales spokesman said: " We are aware that Deloitte are currently setting up a coronavirus testing centre in Cardiff City Stadium.

"Deloitte are working with the UK Government to deliver the UK-wide coronavirus testing of key workers and the site at Cardiff City Stadium is part of that project. Public Health Wales are working with them to see how we can use the facility.

"This is in addition to our existing programme of testing healthcare workers in Wales, which has been running since March 18, and has already seen around 1,500 tests carried out on healthcare workers.

"As part of our testing strategy we are identifying potential sites that will support testing across Wales, ensuring that individuals don’t have to travel significant distances."
