Unfortunately we have a fool in charge who’s actions include:
herd immunity
not testing
taking ages to lockdown
ignoring WHO advice
not ordering ventilators
not giving NHS staff protective gear

10 years of austerity also in preparation. Oh how underrated the NHS seems to have been.

I’m sick of people using this as political points scoring. Shame on you.

We should all be pulling together not blame others. All countries are in the shit even America.

Too true. How can we rely on Mark Drakeford, or whatever his name is. Scrap the Welsh assembly and those useless money grabbing no hopes in Cardiff Bay. 20 years of their control has left us in a mess

I'm amazed the medical and scientific experts who advise the government, and Boris haven't got you in to take control. You seem to have all the answers. Or is it just a key board expert who doesn't know about responsibility and accountability. Remember 12 years of Labour control virtually bankrupted the country and led to tighter financial controls. This now means the government can afford bail outs to save jobs and business

Boris Johnson, who is self-isolating after testing positive for Covid-19, says stricter restrictions could be put in place if necessary.

Britons will also get a leaflet detailing government rules on leaving the house and health information.

It follows criticism over the clarity of government advice to date.

The number of people who have died with coronavirus in the UK has now reached 1,019, with a further 260 deaths announced on Saturday.

There are now 17,089 confirmed cases in the UK.

In the letter being sent to 30 million households at an anticipated cost of £5.8m, Mr Johnson writes: "From the start, we have sought to put in the right measures at the right time.

"We will not hesitate to go further if that is what the scientific and medical advice tells us we must do."

Tough measures to tackle the spread of coronavirus, including a ban on public gatherings of more than two people and the closure of shops selling non-essential goods, were introduced last week.

If we had locked down a month ago when this first started with Italy we would not be in this mess now. The fact airports are still open and we have no solid lockdown at this point is a disgrace. Ignore the medical advice excuse it's nothing to do with that and everything to do with finance. Go into full lockdown now.

Labour didn't bankrupt the country like now they stepped in with high spending during another national crisis when the banks overstretched themselves.

In contrast the present Government plans to spend (rightly) far more than Labour did in another national crisis this time due to a public health crisis.

Believe me austerity, public spending cuts and tax rises are coming down the line. Will you then claim the Tory Government 'bankrupted' the country?

I hope not because they had no other option but it must also be realised Labour were not responsible for the national crisis in 2008 either or the subsequent high borrowing.

UK fatalities rise by 209 in one day

Here's a little more detail on the news that 1,228 people have died in the UK since the outbreak began.

The latest figures show there have been a further 209 deaths over the past 24 hours. That's slightly lower than Saturday's rise of 260.

The vast majority of those - 190 - have come in England.

Wales has reported 10 new deaths, there have been a further six in Northern Ireland, and one in Scotland.

The Department of Health and Social care said there were now 19,522 confirmed cases in the UK.

Last week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the "tide would turn" against the virus in 12 weeks, and a reporter asks if this is still the same.

Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick says: "Nobody is pretending this will be over in a few weeks.

"But what the prime minister said in the past, and what I will reiterate today, is if we all play our part, if we all follow the very clear medical advice... then we can turn the tide of this virus."

Dr Jenny Harries says the virus is like a "moving feast" and when we see it tackled is "dependent on the actions we take as individuals and collectively as a population".

She says she hopes the "proof of that will come in two to three weeks" when experts can see if the measures put in place have worked.

If your team is playing poorly, you change the manager. There's nothing wrong with the 'assembly' or Senedd as it's now called just the people running it. You need people with ambition and ideas for Wales, but, even the present Labour administration have been testing NHS front line workers from the outset of the pandemic, just like Scotland, something England are only getting round to doing.
