Government on course to miss care home testing target, data suggests

More than half of care homes in England have not had a single staff member tested for coronavirus, new figures show.

The latest figures from The Data Analysis Bureau and Person Centred Software - representing a sample size of 32,000 care receivers from 13,000 care givers across England - suggest that just 18 per cent of residents and 15 per of care home workers have been tested for Covid-19 between May 15 and June 1.

On May 15 Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced his pledge for universal care home testing, stating: "every resident and every member of staff in our elderly care homes in England" would be tested "between now and early June".

Beggars belief. We sent a young Lithuanian labourer home at lunchtime yesterday as he said to our foreman he'd got a sore throat and he'd developed a bit of a cough. He'd explained to him that he have to get a test and couldn't come back to work until he had one. His English isn't great and he's not the sharpest tool in the box. Anyway I rang him at 6 last night expecting to have to go through the process and apply for test with him. He already completed the application and the test arrived this morning. If he can sort it out so easily then why cant the professional staff in these homes do it.

My wife got notification yesterday afternoon that she could have an antibody test as she's NHS. She went on line arranged it and it was undertaken at lunchtime today.

2 testing experiences in the last 24 hours and I'd have to give them 10 out of 10

It’s not easy to get a test though is it? You either have to be nhs or have symptoms right? When can us general folk rock up and get one? Do we have to go private?

I don't think you can book an antibody test if you don't fit into the categories. I'm not sure where they extend to. I think just about anyone can get a test to see if your currently infected although I don't think there's much point if you don't think your likely to have it. On the downside the nurse told my wife that a surprisingly low number are actually testing positive for having had it. Even the young staff who've been working on the covid wards and who are convinced they must have had it are in a lot of cases shown not to have had it. Could be in for a bleak winter ahead. I would imagine the anti body tests will be available to more people within a few weeks.

Who can ask for a test ( NHS Website ).

You can ask for a test:

for yourself, if you have coronavirus symptoms now (a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste)
for someone you live with, if they have coronavirus symptoms
This service is for people in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

In England and Wales, you can ask for a test for a child who lives with you, whatever their age. In Scotland and Northern Ireland, you can only get a test for your child if they are aged 5 or over.

If you're asking for a test for someone else, and the person is aged 13 or over, check they're happy for you to ask for a test for them.

Information:
Please help the NHS by only asking for tests for people who have coronavirus symptoms now.

UK passes 40,000 coronavirus deaths

The number of people who have died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus has passed 40,000.

It comes as another 357 people were reported to have died with the virus in hospitals, care homes and the wider community, according to the Department for Health. It brings the total to 40,261.

The UK is only the second country in the world to pass that number of deaths from Covid-19.

In March, the government's chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, said keeping deaths below 20,000 would be a "good outcome".

Not in Wales, we are still in lockdown aren’t we? Apart from meeting another family in a park nothings changed unless I missed it? Still the only country in Europe you cannot play outside Tennis? Going for a beer is like something in ones dreams.....June 19th we will be coming out and rightly so.

It shows how misleading and wrong the info is? Public health England says estimates 17k daily cases with range between 11k & 25k ...... the office for national stats says its 5.6k new cases down from 8k a week ago..... the same disparity can be see different amounts in deaths announced depending on what you read! Deaths in Wales hover around 4 or 5 a day but fail to find that anywhere on mainstream media, get impression sensational figures are better reading.. :?
Personally I have no interest in what media regarding deaths puts out because no idea who's telling the truth.

Boris Johnson could suspend Sunday trading laws for a year under Government plans to boost the economy, it has been reported.

No 10 is reportedly drawing up plans to enable larger supermarkets to open for more than six hours on Sundays.

It comes as leading scientists said an inquiry into the Covid-19 pandemic in the UK is vital before a second wave hits.

Meanwhile, the number of people who have died after testing positive for the coronavirus jumped by 204.

Were nothing but a hot diggery laughing stock, it's just it's no laughing matter to the families of the dead.

Worst number of cases in Europe and we had at least two weeks notice on the rest of Europe, plus we had the advantage of being an island. Italy had it bad because they have an ageing population. We got no excuse. Compere our rate to New Zealand, we are a shambles.

Our prime minister caught it through negligence, also the health secretary and our chief scientist, the other chief scientist had to resign because he was caught shagging on the job. Whilst our main political adviser and the one responsible for the stay at home slogan thought it wise to travel up and down the country whilst carrying covid symptoms, the eyesight trip is an insult to anyone with a tiny bit of intelligence.

Now they want face masks to be warn in hospital and on public transport, bit late now. They also now telling people flying from other countries (who have hardly any cases) to go into isolation for two weeks!! Come on. I dread to think what the Italians, Danish, Spanish, Dutch etc think of that insul

They are making it up as they go along. The politicians in charge have made our country a hot diggery laughing stock, well done they should all resign.

No new virus deaths in Scotland for second day in a row

No new coronavirus deaths have been reported in Scotland in the last 24 hours, the second day in a row the figure has remained the same, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said.

Speaking at the daily coronavirus briefing in Edinburgh, Sturgeon said a total of 2,415 patients have died in Scotland after testing positive for coronavirus, no change on the previous day's figure.

She said this was "very encouraging" but it was likely that more deaths from the virus would be reported in the coming days.

The first minister said 15,639 people have now tested positive for the virus in Scotland, up by 18 from the day before.
