An inquest into the death of Cardiff City legend Peter Whittingham will be held next year, it's been confirmed.

The former Bluebird tragically died earlier this month aged just 35 after sustaining a head injury in a fall.

The inquest is scheduled to take place in March 2021, the coroner's office has confirmed.

Whittingham had been on life support after suffering a head injury following an incident at a Barry pub on March 7. It's understood he had been out to watch the England v Wales Six Nations match, near his home in Penarth.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police previously confirmed they were called to a licensed premises in Barry at around 10pm on March 7, where a 35-year-old man from Penarth suffered a head injury as a result of a fall.

He was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.

The former midfielder turned out more than 450 times for Cardiff between 2007 and 2017, scoring 96 goals in the process.

Does it normally take a year for an inquest to take place or is it going to take that long because of the current situation?

I suggest the coroner has sent the police a long list of actions that are required prior to the inquest.
